cannot expunge trash in Evolution

I have set up Evolution running on Full Monty.
I thought every thing is fine but now I have over 800 files that will not delerte. Open the trash folder and there they are no matter how many times I EXPUNGE or press delete or use all the other key stroke that are supposed to empty the trasj folder.
I understand that the trash is not a folder but a place where I can veiw a list of deleted files in other folders.
That means that those files although not visible  in the origional folders are still sitting there taking up space.
I went into the settings for evolution and set it to clear trash every time on exit from the program but achieved nothing.
I have shut down evolution dozens of times . I have rebooted the pc many times that trash just stays there

you moved mail/trash to the basket..right?
right click>empty the basket

Thanks for the bleachbit idea Menotu and I know that will work
BUT
I am making my whole working life dependent on Evolution (replacing Kontact).
Evolution has a delete function which makes files  be displayed i Trash. Trash has a command  EXPUNGE.

That is failing.
If I cannot fix it and get Evolution to work completely then I cannot Guess how many other problems could be hidden so  I had for my own good have to scrap Evolution right now. So I have to keep looking for a fix of the broken command EXPUNGE

I tried using bleachbitBoth as root and as user
I entered my home folder as an optional folder in bleachbit

It did not seem to do that optional file or if it did it did it so fast I did not see it
all those deleted files are still there.

How do I get Bleachbit to actually clean a specific selection of folders that are not shown in bleachbit´s standard list
