Installed a new kernel. I am now using kernel 3.2.18-pclos1.bfs. Everything seems fine. Still got the 'cannot open file delete' but very little boot delay. I will leave the old kernel for a while before deleting it.

You can uninstall it, reboot and install it again, and it should work properly.
