{Solved}Default Audio controls

Hi all

Yesterday I installed gnome-media tools , for the Sound Recorder. In the process I lost my default audio mixer, KMix which had the PCM channel, Master Channel, and the all important mic Cheannles with the 20db boost for the mic which is what I love, as shown in the image below:

I now have the usual Gnome volume controls in KMix which are Playback devices, Capture devices, playback streams and capture streams.

Which does not boost my mic input 20db as the old kmix controls did.

Is there a way I can get my original Kmix Audio Kmix controls back with the 20db boost for the mic as shown in the first image?

I never know exactly how the different sound programs are going to react with each other. So far, even when having two mixers installed, I have not created any real disasters.

What I have found is that when I am not using pulse audio, Qasmixer has always been the solution to getting a sound function working that kmix does not show.

I just looked on this machine and under qasmixer, there are separate sliders for boosting the front and back microphones.

The range on those sliders is -30db to +30db.

Strange .....  I have gnome-media installed here for some time and it has never interfered with anything else.

Are you sure there was nothing else that could have caused the problem?

The second pic you posted is from PulseAudio and not gnome-media.
Also it shows the output tab and levels and not the Input tab which should have the MIC levels.

If you have PulseAudio enabled then use PulseAudio Volume Control to set your levels.
You may need to install   pavucontrol  from the repo to get the controls.

I solved the problem, I completely uninstalled PulseAudio, and voila, all the settings showed up in KDE as originally installed.

I then went ahead and installed Qasmixer and boy is this program great , now I can adjust front and rear mics.

I am glad you have what you wanted. Please go edit your original post and mark it solved.

Since you seem to have an interest in audio, I would like to suggest that you install audacity and play with it when you get a chance.

It is a very nice tool for audio projects provided that you take the time to learn it before starting a project that you promised to have done yesterday.

Glad you have it sorted to your satisfaction 

 gnome-media  was not the cause of the change in the mixer 'look'. You must have installed or enabled PulseAudio.

Kmix integrates with PulseAudio, although it doesn't show all available controls in that mode, hence the need for PuleAudio Volume Control or Veromix widget to get access to them.
