(Solved) Volumeicon wont start on boot..
« on: October 16, 2012, 04:20:38 AM »
ever since I installed the Nvidia card with its HDMI thing ..Volumeicon will not start with the lxde mini .. I try to run it and nothing happens.. I start it in konsole and I get this output.

Code: [Select]
[scoundrel@localhost ~]$ volumeicon
volumeicon: alsa_backend.c:88: asound_get_volume: Assertion `m_elem != ((void *)0)' failed.
Aborted
[scoundrel@localhost ~]$

I do alsaconf and it sees my soundblaster and sets it up and only then can I run volumeicon and it starts...

is there some way to get this working right..?

Try and set the Soundblaster as the preferred sound card .....  if you have PulseAudio installed that could help .....

do not use pulse .. and can't figure out where to set my SB as default .. in PCC there are shown two alternatives for sound, but nothing showing any default choice ..

I used to set it in PCC - Hardware list - sound card .....  and set the options .....  the last one I think is "Index" ....  I seem to recall putting a '0' for the priority one and a '1' for the secondary card.

I have no idea if my recollection is correct or even if this still works .....   it has been some years  :D

You might also check the forum for posts about 'asound.conf' file which I believe can also be used for the purpose.

This also might be relevant ...

Anything I might have known about editing files for the purpose of determining the priority of sound cards is long forgotten  :D  ....  PA has been my way of doing it for some time now  ;)
