Moving email files from Kmail to another mail prg
« on: October 08, 2012, 04:25:26 AM »
I am fed up with the mess that is Kontact
Kontact is a PIM (personal information manager)
After  a big search I find that Evolution is also a PIM so I have installed it.
With it working I find it provides all the facilities that I so extensively use in Kontact.
Now I have a large number of email records in my kmail files and find that there is no easy way to transfer them to Evolution. (3000 recd mails and 2400 sent mails)
From my efforts I conclude that email programs bring the mail in then store it in data bases which make it impossible to simply copy the email message itself across complete with header.
So to move these mails from Kmail to any other system the only way is to resnd the messge from Kmail to myself via the normal mail system     OR maybe someone cna help me with  HOW TO

If I could find a POP# server I could install temporarily on board my PC and load its in box with copies of messages. Then set my new email program to fetch the mails from that Local POP3 I might end up with all those mails neatly indexed and normal  in my new system.
I then would like to load the outbox of my new email program and connect to a local sudo mail recieveing smtp server which will bluff the email send into believing the mail has been sent at which time it will move the message from outbox to sent folder which is where I need it to be.

Simply using the normal mail system has a disadvantage that resending changes all the headers and I cannot end up with the same from  and subject headers. in the information displayed in my new email program
Can any body help with just what to install and how to utilise it..

If I archive in Kmail it would mean I still have to have Kmail running when I want to  read them.
I want to remove Kontact and Kmail from my system

I have emails now in two incompatible versions of Kmail, I want to move the lot into one good PIM and Evolution looks excellent to me.

If I cant set up my own temporary POP3 server I will just have to mail them all out and back into the new system.
