Chromium needs fixing in KDE mini Repository(Solved)
« on: September 14, 2012, 11:39:07 PM »
I tried downloading Chromium twice and it seems to install but then fails to run every time. I haven't had the same issue with Firefox but hear that Chromium when it works actually processes web pages faster. I also tried it in LXDE and it crashed on me and wouldn't load. So a fix is definitely needed. Please send me a message when this has been looked into. Thank you!

It is working for most everyone else .......  so look to your install for the problem.

If you want help diagnosing your problem then supply some information, such as the output from launching it in a terminal.

I just installed Chromium Browser.
The application would not run. When executed from terminal it gave the following error:

"/usr/bin/chromium-browser: error while loading shared libraries: libevent.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

Installing libevent5 using Synaptic solved the problem. So this is not a problem, I'm just reporting it so libevent5 should be added to the dependency list for Chromium Browser.

Thanks.

I tried Libevent John W and Chrome now works I hope they make libevent5 a requirement for installing Chrome as without it it doesn't want to work. I also installed Memcached knowing how some browsers are memory hungry and how that program would help to cache some things on the hard drive that maybe couldn't fit at the time on the memory especially with older computers. So I think that and its dependencies should be added as a requirement too. Anyway that seems to have done it and I will mark this solved but not lock the comments so others can comment if they wish. One last remark in closing though there was no error message at all in trying Chromium it just never started but now does. So I guess everyone's experience with the same problem differs. Thanks again!

Chromium needs memcached and libvent5 on my old hardware

Thanks for the solid posting. Chromium was failing to load completely after I updated my system with a new ISO. (The system was in transport for a couple of months and was beyond the point where a regular update made sense.) I confirm that installing memcached and libevent5 fixed the problem and Chromium is up and running.
The hardware installed in the Latvian 1952 antique radio case is also vintage.
