Permisions Changed After Update
« on: October 03, 2012, 02:58:05 PM »
I just updated to the newer version of IrfanView in Synaptic and permissions were changed to read only. Easy to fix but it hasn't happened before so I thought it might be something that needs to be changed in the script for installing. Already fixed permissions so this is just a heads up. If I'm posting in the wrong place please move.

What permissions? Where?

I am struggling with similar message, but I can write to the ini file?

Have you checked permisions in "file:///usr/share/IrfanView/i_view32.ini"?

From Desktop right click menu choose "Run Command". Open Dolphin as root. Go to: usr>share>IrfavView>i_view32.ini>properties. Change permissions if needed. That is what I did.

Thanks Pinoc. I really like that you made a very popular Windows only program easier to install.

Thanks for reply, I have to conclude that I must have seen ghosts or made other mistakes. In a user konsole I thought I opened the file        usr\share\IrfavView\i_view32.ini added a line and successfully closed it again.

After seeing your reply I tried again slightly different

Code: [Select]
[root@localhost gert]# ls -l /usr/share/IrfanView/i_view32.ini
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2895 Dec 25 00:58 /usr/share/IrfanView/i_view32.ini
[root@localhost gert]#

then I applied following, not sure if this is the correct way of temp solving the saving problem but it seems to work.

Code: [Select]
[root@localhost gert]# chown gert:gert  /usr/share/IrfanView/i_view32.ini

[root@localhost gert]# ls -l /usr/share/IrfanView/i_view32.ini
-rw-r--r-- 1 gert gert 2895 Dec 25 00:58 /usr/share/IrfanView/i_view32.ini
[root@localhost gert]#

Starting as normal user seems to work fine now
Code: [Select]
[gert@localhost ~]$ irfanview
[gert@localhost ~]$

Because I needed fast way of rotating a number of pictures a few degrees after scanning, I went back and used KDE 3.5 where I have have wine-IrfanView running ok mostly, then decided to relent and install wine on my latest system. Bad Idea to do it in a hurry after midnight.   ;D

That is is good to hear.

I am running in circles now I think.  Trying to associate Irfanview with .png files to start with.  Adding Irfanview as number one option using the command "irfanview" only opens Irfanview but not the associated file I clicked.

Expect it is a simple missing parameter on the command line, and I will do some more searching.  Would welcome any pointers at this stage.

Wedgetail I added nothing . I just changed permission in properties.

If you want it to work as default viewer there is a script in this thread http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/make-irfanview-default-image-viewer-355622/ It worked for a while for me then I couldn't seem to get it to work again. I haven't tried it in a while.

Thanks, I am trying to figure out what goes on.  I did find your old script, have been back in my KDE 3.5 to find some details. Seem an eternity since I battled with earlier wine versions and gave up.  IrfanView program is however so attractive that I will have another look.

The link you gave show one solution that looks like it could work, we will see what come out.  At the moment I am trying to figure out if it is important that IrfanView is not placed in the wine directory install structure.  My earlier wine attempt is placed in the the c:\..... (did not work properly either, but did allow drop and drag).

I have presently changed permissions to user for the whole Irfanview directory but this was more an exercise for me, I had already changed the .ini so user could save changed configs.

I may also just wait until the next Irfanview upgrade hits repos as my immediate  requirement has been satisfied.  :)

The problem with getting an associated file type (.png) to enter into IrfanView when single clicking on the filename kept niggling me. Santa had been and the grandkids were extremely energetic ;D great situation to test my powers of concentration. Well that power is not good.

I was trying to avoid a script file and make a single line statement that could go into the command line on the file association location. This so far failed.  By combining the information from a few links I could see the pattern and decided nothing lost just trying the script .

Code: [Select]
#!/bin/sh
File="z:"${1//\//\\}
wine  "/usr/share/IrfanView/i_view32.exe" $File

Saved this on the Desktop
Quote
/home/gert/Desktop/Irf_test.scr

Making the file executable
Code: [Select]
[root@localhost gert]# chmod +x /home/gert/Desktop/Irf_test.scr
[root@localhost gert]#

In the file association location for command::
Code: [Select]
/home/gert/Desktop/Irf_test.scr %f
Now when clicking on any .png file it will open in IrfanView, I notice that it is a bit slower opening than if I used "IrfanView" in the command line position.

I am assuming that an experienced scriptwriter could combined the script file two lines and the script avoided but my attempt failed.

The following was a line I modified from: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1655485

Code: [Select]
wine "/usr/share/IrfanView/i_view32.exe" "Z:\\$(echo "$@" | sed 's/\//\\/g')" $@
I can't decipher the last approximate half of the line.

Anyone step up and make a working single line.  ;D

I tried to put that single line into the command action line for the .png association and it opens Irfanview but it does not load the picture that I clicked.

I have a hazy memory that the secret here may have something to do with the %f, when using script.  :)

Here is the script that works for me:
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/sh
File="z:"${1//\//\\} ; wine  "/usr/share/IrfanView/i_view32.exe" $File
wine  "/usr/share/IrfanView/i_view32.exe" $File

I saved it to home, made it executable then opened up Configure Your Desktop>Common Appearance and Behavior>File Associations>Images>JPEG>Edit  and chose the *.sh file I'd saved and put it at the top of the list for JPEG. I haven't tried PNG but it should work the same.
