xfs on SSD without boot partition?
« on: October 01, 2012, 11:04:40 AM »
Hi!
On my new noteboob (with SSD) I want to install PCLinuxOS KDE: a root partition (xfs) and a home partition (xfs). Is this possible without an own boot partition?
As I've seen in the Internet, it depends on the distribution, if GRUB is able to boot from xfs  or needs an own boot partition (ext2, ext3 or ext4).
Anybody out there succeeded in a xfs root installation without boot partition?
And: Is it possible to mix file systems (e.g. ext4 root and xfs home or contrary)?

I have used GRUB legacy with both ext4 and xfs with everything on one "/" partition.
Both ran smoothly.   Mixing things up is up to you.

Hi FF!

Thank you!
I tried it 2 times (last one yesterday) - during installation and Grub installation no error message, Grub was detected and I could boot, but then I saw a lot of error messages.

I give up.

I assume you're installing to sda 1 ?

You've made a  /  xfs partition and a swap partition ?

What kind of machine, especially video card ?

What is the last error message you see ?

Can you post the contents of /boot/grub/menu.lst ?

thx
