Panel preferences and other problems
« on: October 01, 2012, 07:09:27 AM »
Hi,

I'm a PCLOS/Linux newbie and after the installation of PCLOS 2012.02 Phoenix i ran into some troubles, which I wasn't able to fix on my own, so I would really appreciate if someone could help me.

When i start the system minimized windows are shown in the bottom right corner of the panel instead of in the middle (i have only one panel at the bottom of the screen). I managed to change this in the panel preferences but the changes are reset every time i reboot the system.

After starting the Libre Office Manager I get the message "Failed to update the package information.
(more details: /tmp/LO_STEP00.log)." This is the content of the logfile:

Another problem concerns setting up my external monitor. In Nvidia X Server Settings the external monitor is recognized but when i try to save the configuration via "Save to X Configuration File" the following message appears:

"You do not have adequate permission to open the existing X configuration file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' for writing."

Thanks for any help in advance and sorry for my bad English.

Hi Arm1n,

the phonix iso is from February and contains an old sources.list which causes this synaptic error. The Synaptic setting and choose repository then search the nluug entry in the list, click the entry and edit the sections which appear in a edit field under the list of repos. you have to replace kde4 by kde.

And please do a full update after this change to replace the old list.

Monitor problem:
i don't know what the terminal command for the nvidia control center is but you have to enter

Code: [Select]
su <press enter>
<enter your root password> <press enter>

before entering the command for the nvidia control center to get the permissions to access the file.

The full life is a big mess

PS:
I'm German. Sorry because of possible mistakes in my written messages xD

The external monitor works now. I could easily activate it under "Display" in the Xfce4 Settings Manager. Unfortunately the Libre Office Manager still doesn't work. I followed ghostbunnie's instructions but now I'm being told to update my system although I already updated it (Synaptic: Reload - Mark all Upgrades - Apply). Any ideas?

When you get this message, it's directs you to a log file (in /tmp, I believe).  The files will have the details of what is not up-to-date.  Have you checked it?  Can you post the contents?
