Can't Login to Full Monty 2011
« on: September 30, 2012, 11:04:34 AM »
Whenever I attempt to login to my primary user account, it accepts the password and either turns black before returning to the login screen, or it hangs on the KDE4 Full Monty with gray screen.

Any ideas? It used to boot properly, now it won't boot on any system.

Installed on 16GB flash drive; I've already deleted the user by logging in to root and created a new one, no luck with that.
I love me some Linux, but I used to think _Ubuntu was superior. That is, until after installing it on 4 machines I had to use my backup PCLinux USB to repair it 'cuz I tried a nightly build and it was @$$. Now, I keep an _Ubuntu LiveUSB key, a PCLinuxFM and Pheonix key, and a Win7 key. Just in case.

if you don't get a answer fast that is because no one knows how to help you or has experienced the problem

have you updated the system recently?

have you read the information specific to fullmonty?  there is many posts talking about fullmonty that could help you

about your system, can you log in as root?

you mentioned that you deleted user, how did you do this?

be very specific

17 minutes is too long?   :(

Have you tried running fsck on the device?  It should not be mounted when doing this, so you may need a LiveCD, or another running system into which you insert the device and run the check from...

17 minutes? one post was yesterday and the other today, days are longer than 17 minutes unless you are in gta san andreas where the day is composed of 24 minutes  ;D

Installed on 16GB flash drive

The effect you describe happens when running FM or KDE on a system with insufficient RAM, e.g. 256 MB. That is the only idea I have for now, I have no experience with FM being installed to a flash drive, but would imagine that a light-weight version of PCLinuxOS is more suited for this purpose. Have you tried the same with LXDE form a USB-flashdrive on the same PC?

Sorry, I forgot specs.

The 'puter it first didn't work on: HP Z210 Workstation, 8GB ram, no idea if it's 32 or 64 bit.
'Puter it used to work on but no longer does: HP P6510y- 4GB ram, 64 bit.

Oh, and I used to have Pheonix on my flash drive, but it bored me so I decided to install something that's minimum is 15GB for running on something that has 14.7 GB.

I wonder what happened to all of the FM experts that helped with all of my other problems... (trying to boot from the install ISO for FM 2012, network problems)

Maybe because all FM experts know that FM 2011 is outdated because it can no longer be updated and only the new FM2012 should be used. Ot because nobody has encountered the problem you describe.

I don't see what booting FM 2012 has to do with the network. Booting is one thing, network problems another. If you can't get your network up in FM2012 then you could try to install the older kernel (just put the two kernel packages on a USB-stick and then install them), then reboot in the older kernel, and see if that helps, that did it for me on one PC.

My other problems were booting and fixing my network. My current problem is the FIRST POST.

Also, my FullMonty is installed on a 16GB flash drive and it is very difficult to update when your computer will not boot either a FM2012 CD/DVD or USB.

But hey, at least you tried. Thanks.

you are so negative and you now describe a different problem

hard to follow you when no one has experienced what you are seeing

sounds alot easier to download pclinux 2012.08 and install later the files from fullmonty in it

your personal files are in that flash drive? or in a hard disk?

No, FullMonty is installed on the flash drive.

Sorry, forgot to answer these.

I have FM 2011 installed on the 16GB flash drive. It works great, except for the fact that I cannot login to my normal user account. When that happened, I logged into root and went to the user account management thing in settings, deleted the user, and created a new one. I then rebooted and tried to login, and no dice.
And yes, I have read up on Full Monty and I love it. Too bad I can only login to the KDE desktop.
Oh, and I also tried to change which desktop the user account logged into, (XBMC, KDE) and that didn't work.
