For ordinary use there is no need of Jack IMO.

If you need real time audio to a high level then Jack and a suitable kernel would be the way to go.

PulseAudio does most everything a user would require out side of the real time audio.

In your situation I would be inclined to uninstall all Jack audio related packages.

When recording do a test and check what input is being used for the audio by looking at the Record tab of PA Volume Control. If necessary change it there to whatever input device you wish to use.

{If you want to mix sound streams for your recording .....  say voice over music .....  then set up a loopback mixer in PA and record from the monitor of that mixer.}

I did a test here and all is working.

You used gtk-recordMyDesktop withuot jack  ?

Audacity working but uses host: ALSA  , in recordMyDesktop   change device from DEFAULT  to ALSA not working.
I will try config jack with this  http://jackaudio.org/linux_rt_config
1. Editing the configuration file
2. Creating a "realtime" group
For me it's a little strange that so I have to configure.
Can be automatically.

There have been similar topics in the past. I use ffmpeg and alsa, it does not suit/work for everyone but works here

A little example

Yes, as I have no requirement for real time audio, I have no need of Jack.

As I posted I use PulseAudio Volume COntrol to determine the source and sink and what is being recorded.

I can't jackit uninstall,   uninstall it also calls gtk-recordMyDesktop and more.

gtk-recordMyDesktop working when jack "start" whith QjackCtrl , but I don't hear sound .
There is some option
a little later, I will write more.

OK, I will bow out as I know nothing of using Jack.

Hopefully someone who uses it can comment.

Yes, you were right Just17 .  :D
gtk-recordMyDesktop working with alsa.

I removed pulse audio, Skype working , microphone in audacity working,
but gtk-recordMy  says I sound settings misconfigured.
I created a new user account and there sound working.
I can't adjust Boost Mic in KMix , I can only On /Off, ( in alsamixer too not working)
so I use for this GMixer .
Now I will use new user account :)

Glad you got a working solution  :D

If you had continued using PulseAudio you would have had the MIC amplification slider in PulseAudio Volume Control, as well as other settings.
With PulseAudio installed and enabled, all apps using sound should be set to use PulseAudio and not ALSA.

So, if you ever decide to use PulseAudio remember to edit the sound apps to use it  ;)
