nouveau MX200 (abandoned for now)
« on: May 12, 2013, 12:58:14 PM »
New (2013.04) install on old brick.
It has a
NVIDIA Corporation NV11 DDR [Geforce2 MX200] (rev b2)
video card.
No way to startup with tricks like vesa, framebuff or whatsoever.
Even switching to the vesa or nv driver and  restarting xserver, no go, it just want to reboot, and thats of no help with a LiveCD/DVD/USB.
Found the next solution, replaced the Nvidia by another ancient ATI Radeon 128 and installed the system.
Now I changed the ATI for the NVIDIA card and could check the so called factory(nogo), nouveau(nogo) and xorg-nv(yes-succes) drivers.
I think the system checking from the LiveIso for the MX200 is wrong. Nouveau is no longer supporting this old card and the default should be xorg-nv. If possible you could check for nouveau or binairy blob later from the installed system.

This thread may be your answer: NVIDIA proprietary graphics drivers.

Found this link just a minute before you posted ;) but thanks.
Tried all possibillities but for this MX200 it's a nogo.
Only workable solution stays the xorg-nv driver (even in another test PC)
But hey, in the dungeons of my hobbyroom I found a Nvidia FX5200, problem solved, gcc, xorg and testing tested.
Now this PC goes to a new PCLinuxOS user. ;)

P.S. this MX 200 card is stored for future questions ;)

Got it for this old MX200 card.
Start the live CD/DVD/USB with the kernel options:
nomodeset xdriver=nv
After install be sure the video driver is set to xorg > nv not to NVIDIA > Geforce 2 MX to Geforce 4
