Mistakes. Life would be dull without them.

Looking at the number of posts we see here resulting from critical packages being removed by uninstallation of some thing user believes he does not need, can there be a solution for this?
...

Anyone with the administrators password should behave as an admin while using it  .......  and at least take some care in what they are doing.

What you describe is a lack of care on behalf of the user.

I am always serious when i open synaptic.

Everytime i update, i always check the list of packages that are going to be removed and i check if there are packages with similar names that are going to be installed.

Ideally, a package removed during a normal update procedure should be replaced by a new package. A package being removed without being replaced is usually a bad sign.

Always pay attention when you are in synaptic, extra attention when removing packages but also attention when doing normal, routine updating.

I understand the sentiment. But look at the number of posts here on the forums. Is it happening?
PCLinuxOS is being used in equal numbers by both computer trained individuals and with those computer awareness. And most of the installations of PCLinuxOS are actually home/personal/single user environment where the administrator is also the owner/user. It may not always be possible to expect that from everyone. I am just saying.

I also understand that our meagre number of developers are overburdened with much more serious tasks at present. May be we should all write these up somewhere and store for interested developers to think over on an overcast/rainy day :)

Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

There is a key difference between developing and packaging.  Requests for changes in functionality of a particular applications should be directed to the upstream developers of that application.  ;)   Generally we package what they provide.  We may add patches to fix specific problems but often these are acquired from other sources.

I won't speak for experienced users as I take for granted that the bigger the experience, the smaller the possibilty of fatal mistakes :)

When someone goes out trying a new operating system, the very least he/she must do is be cautious.
It's like taking your car to drive down an unknown road; you wouldn't start running like crazy, would you?

You can't expect from a machine to warn you about mistakes you are going to make as a human.
When you are root, you have the complete control. The machine is defenceless. You can do anything you want.
This is how things work in Linux. This is one of the first things you learn (even after messing up your system) when you start using it.
It's up to you to use it wisely.

Do you really believe that if Synaptic developers followed your advices, things would be safer?
And that there wouldn't be another user that "accidentally" removed some packages needed by the system, even though the complete list was in front of him?
For the whole world, you are someone.
For someone, you are the whole world.

I will say that it would be useful to have the default set to 'expanded'.

That in itself should be warning enough even if the user is not paying attention to what they are doing.

I would imagine that would not be a huge hack .....  but that is only my imagination  ;)

Each and every one of the so called usability improvements are only incremental and only as good as the person using them.
There is no preventing a determined user from hosing his/her system whatever precautions are taken.

And that would describe me to a tee sling-shot. I determinedly hose my system on a regular basis. ;D ;D
