what other package was marked for removed when you set to remove it?
some packages have very complicated dependency chains and they sometimes drag out a lot of essential packages when they are set to be removed.
It is always advised to look at what else will be removed when removing packages.
But I will the next time.Galen
Strigi is a fundamental part of KDE, I believe. You can keep it from running, but you can't remove it.
I wanted to disable it at first but it was not in the list of running programs.sling-shot
If by blank screen you mean that not even command prompt is displayed, then probably you need a reinstallation.
But if you do have command prompt, experts here may be able to get you back up running without much loss. You may have the OpenBox shell or something like that.
Please clarify. Preferably post a photo of the screen.
Nothing there to make a photo of, just blank. No command prompt, nothing. I have been out for 4 hours and just tried again but same result. I think you're right - reinstall. But how do I reinstall if I get the same blank screen with my livecd?
