I'm the youngest of seven.  The oldest last spring died due to Alzheimer's.  He was 58 when he was diagnosed as early stage Alzheimers.

I have noticed... being 58... that the memory ain't what it used to be.  Whoaaaaa... sure hoping this isn't heredity.
It isn't necessarily hereditary.  I know someone who has advanced Alzheimer's since he was in his 60s.  His father is still around and of sharp mind but is absolutely devastated seeing his son this way.

Nice to know...

I watched an expose' about Alzheimer's several years ago. One case study was about identical twin brothers in their 80s. One had it, the other didn't. It suggests that there may be environmental factors but it's not conclusive.

"It suggests that there may be environmental factors but it's not conclusive"

from the little i know about alzheimers it seems that your daily work/activities, your food and how good your life is makes the difference

i remember that article mentioned a week ago saying that alzheimers is basically diabetes type III, possibly wrong but supports the idea that food and activities help avoid this disease, still there must be a genetic factor present

Absolutely, but it may be a combination of different factors.

Even though identical twins are genetically identical, their genes may express in different ways or there could be damage caused by viruses, chemicals etc.

There is a well known aspect of animals called the Blood/Brain Barrier. It's basically a filter that helps to keep pathogens from getting into the brain but it isn't 100% perfect.

There is a new drug for Alzheimer, doctors claims it diminishes the speed of cognitive loss in 34%, those are good news  I think

The article (in Spanish) is here   http://alt1040.com/2012/10/alzheimer-farmaco-que-frena-el-declive-cognitivo
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

As a Parkinson victim, I respectfully disagree !
Having Parkinson is a Royal PITA and troubles me all day every day and every night.
If I just knew how to get Altzheimer, I could forget about the Parkinson.
Ah, what a relief would that be
