Linksys Ae2500 Wireless usb stick seen as scanner.
« on: September 24, 2012, 04:41:19 PM »
I can't get this usb wireless configured at all, eevn with ndis. PCLOS 2012.08, 3.2.18-pclos2.pae.bfs kernel.
iwconfig returns :
lo        no wireless extensions.

eth0      no wireless extensions.

Code: [Select]
[root@localhost ~]# lsusb

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 13fe:1f00 Kingston Technology Company Inc. DataTraveler 2.0 4GB Flash Drive / Patriot Xporter 32GB (PEF32GUSB) Flash Drive

PCC hardware sees it as a scanner.  I know the dongle is good because it work fine in Windows. I just can't get it working in PCLOS.  the ndis driver is bcmwlhigh5. but the Network configuration says "the device has already been congfigured with the usbcore driver." ???? and them says it can't find the selected device. It does not show up in ethernet card in PCC. \

I need help here....

Thanks

Is that the driver you are using in Windows?  Is it a 32-bit driver?

Is the wireless dongle straight into a USB port, on an extension cable, or running from a hub?

It's the same driver for Win XP . I also have a Win 7 64 bit system that uses the bcmwlhigh5-64 driver. I bought 3 of these when they were on special. I even switched them around on the other 2 systems and they all work. I tried all 3 on this build and they all don't work.

It's plugged in directly to a usb port.
What I find suspect is that they show up as a scanner in PCC and don't show up at all in network Configuration.

Just 17, I saw the link you gave, it says that it supported in the kernel, but wireless config does not see the dongle and ask to set it up with ndiswrapper.
PCC hardware sees it as a scanner.

Have you tried the same kernel as reported in that link?

Yes both the 3.2.18-pclos1-bfs and 3.2.18-pclos1.pae.bfs.
They both don't see the dongle as a wireless network interface

13b1:003a .....  that device likely uses the  brcm 80211  driver ....   which is apparently in the
3.2.18-pclos2.pae.bfs   kernel

$ locate brcmfmac
Code: [Select]
/lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43236b.bin
/lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac4329.bin
/lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac4330.bin
/lib/modules/3.2.18-pclos2.pae.bfs/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/brcm80211/brcmfmac
/lib/modules/3.2.18-pclos2.pae.bfs/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/brcm80211/brcmfmac/brcmfmac.ko.gz

It might also be that the version of device you have is not supported   :(

It's a rev3 and no support for it in linux.

I picked up a D-Link N150 dw-125 rev3 and tried to follow your instructions in this thread
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,101349.0.html

but got to make step in terminal and got this output

Code: [Select]
[paul@localhost ~]$ cd /home/paul/2011_0719_RT3070_RT3370_RT5370_RT5372_Linux_STA_V2.5.0.3_DPO
[paul@localhost 2011_0719_RT3070_RT3370_RT5370_RT5372_Linux_STA_V2.5.0.3_DPO]$ make
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found.  Stop.

I need help here , I'm a noob in this .

All I can suggest is that you make sure you are running a suitable kernel and had renamed the file prior to extracting it.

Delete the extracted directory & files, and extract again using the option to Auto Select Folder.

I can only say that the procedure worked for me .....  as you can see from the thread I have no experience with this stuff.

The procedure is listed in this post and should be complete I believe

Thanks , I finally got to work after re-extracting it. Thank you again.

Now I will be monitoring the results for the AE2500 rev3 to see if a driver is found to make it work.

Hey Just 17,
The D-Link is solved but the Linksys AE2500 rev3 is not, so I'll keep searching for a solution.

I suppose you have seen this .....  last entry on page, from May 2012

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsWirelessNetworkCardsLinksys

That frigging annoying substitution by the forum is mucking up the link!

Hopefully you realise the "another distro" refers to U-buntu!

It is long past the time this substitution stupidity stopped!
When it makes it impossible to post a useful link then YES it is stupid!
