Certified NVIDIA 304.51 Linux Driver Released
« on: September 24, 2012, 12:58:28 PM »

Added support for the new Quadro Sync board for Quadro Kepler GPUs. See the "Configuring Frame Lock and Genlock" chapter in the README for details.

Fixed an X server crash on X.Org xserver 1.13 when it is compiled without support for DRI2.

Fixed a regression that broke color controls on older X servers.

Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the display layout area of the nvidia-settings control panel to be laid out incorrectly.

Fixed a bug that prevented panning from working correctly after a modeswitch on some X servers with support for cursor constraining.

Gamma ramp and colormap adjustments now apply correctly when screen transformations such as rotation and keystone correction are in use.

Fixed RandR per-CRTC gamma persistence across modeswitches and VT-switches.

Fixed a bug that caused the X server to sometimes hang in response to input events.

Fixed a reduction in rendering performance for core X11 rendering on certain GPUs that occurred in the 290.series of releases.

Fixed a bug that prevented PowerMizer from working correctly on some boards with GDDR5 memory, such as some GeForce GT 240 SKUs.

Fixed a bug that caused OpenGL applications to not animate properly when a rotation or a transformation was applied on some older X server versions.

Enabled FXAA with Unified Back Buffers.

Fixed a bug that prevented the "Reset Hardware Defaults" button in the Display Settings page of nvidia-settings from being activated.

Hi,

I just bought a GeForce 650 and installed Nvidia drivers 304.51 but my desktop keeps freezing randomly.
I was wondering if anybody would have any advises regarding this problem.

I never had any problem with my installation before adding this Graphics card. Looking at different posts I can see that this happen to other people using Nvidia drivers. The solution seems to update the driver however I have the most up-to-date driver.

Most of the time the mouse is still moving but the whole desktop is frozen and I can't switch to another terminal/session (Alt-FX) or use the keyboard.
All the functionalities of the desktop are working correctly (3D effect, ...) until it totally crashes. I also tried to not used Compiz but the same issue occurs.

This  is my configuration:
I am run a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Socket AM2 (2.2GHz), ASUS M2NPV-VM NF430 Socket AM2 PCI-E mother board, up-to-date KDE PCLinuxOS distribution. Zotac GTX 650 2GB GDDR5 Dual DVI Dual HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Manu

Installing the driver from nvidia site is not recommended.
Also it is not in repository yet.

The updated nvidia drivers gonna be tested first by some testers.

Also it can give some issues when using drivers from the nvidia site.

Edit: the current driver in repository (304.37) doesn't your card yet.

Hi,

I might have found a solution, which is to change the PowerMizer setting in Nvidia control panel (Nvidia X Server Settings app). Changing the setting from Adaptive mode to Preferred Performance mode (This solution was suggested in one of the another distro forum) seems to solve the problem.

I will post another message in few days to report if this solution works properly.

Edit (few days later): It definitely solves the problem to change PowerMizer settings in Nvidia X Server Settings but the setting is not permanent so you have to re-change it every time that you reboot the computer. I didn't find a way to make this change  permanent.
Does anybody knows how to change the default value of PowerMizer Preferred Performance mode?
I tries to modify xorg.conf by adding the following line but this doesn't make any difference:
Option "RegistryDwords" "PowerMizerEnable=0x0"

Cheers,

Manu

Just return my graphics and it was actually defective. The new card works just fine.
