Rolling Back GIMP?
« on: September 23, 2012, 11:30:46 AM »
I was wondering if it was possible to rollback to the previous version before 2.8.

I am trying to get some artwork ready for a con coming up next week! And the smoothness & stability that I had in the last version(2.0 I think*). I cannot achieve in 2.8. Its driving me crazy! >:(

The issues i am having is that theres intermittent lag with my strokes at odd times. And it every so often crashes. Especially while Im working! Geez, talk about karma. A friend of mine's was having these exact issues in Adobe PSCS! And i was making fun of him on it. Well, I learned my lesson and really need the older GIMP back till that team squares away these issues. because it seems 2.8 really may not have been showtime ready.

Specs:
OS- PCLOS2012 & KDE4.8.3
CPU- AMD Athlon II x2 3.1ghz
Mobo- ECS A780LM-M2 v1.0
Onboard- AMD 760G & SB710
Ram- 4gb DDr3
Input: Wacom Graphire2 4x5

You could use Virtualbox to install a "pre 2.8 gimp" version of PCLinuxOS and allocate as much system ram and video ram as you can, whilst at the same time don't run any applications in the host system.

========================

I sometimes set a VM up as though it's going to be a Windows guest as that allows 256MB of video ram to be set (against 128MB for Linux) and then press OK.

Using the VBox Settings option I then go back and set the PCLinuxOS ISO and/or PCLinuxOS HDD to boot from..

In the VM I then check using the lspci command to find the number(s) set on the VGA line and then run the command again to see what size is shown with something like:

[vb32@localhost ~]$ lspci -v -s 00:02.0
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: InnoTek Systemberatung GmbH VirtualBox Graphics Adapter (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11
        Memory at e0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
        Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled]

I see this thread is a little old , but I also would like to find and install Gimp 2.6. Is there a source left for the 2.6 rpm ? Thanks for any help.
