SOLVED - Where's apt-sources-update ?
« on: September 21, 2012, 11:34:02 AM »
According to this message (from Aug-2012), it should be in the repo.  Have checked three different repos and no joy.  I thought I had the script from the 2010/2011 (?) time frame, when it had to be used manually+explicitly from the cmd-line.  Nope.  BTW, I use the LXDE-Mini kit and am currently working from the 2012-06 LXDE-Mini ISO.  I'm seeking the best repo for my area (of course.)

Am I doing something wrong ?

You have an older LXDE kit.  I can't look at the moment, but that menu pick did exist in the previous kit...

apt-sources-update was removed from the repository over a year ago. This is what Tex wrote then: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,94406.msg794780.html#msg794780.

(apt-sources-list is just the list of repository mirrors that Synaptic can use. apt-sources-update was a script to help one find the fastest mirror.)

mr-roboto,
my is a full LXDE not mini, installed in April.
since I made donation support to PCLOS devs I received a 12 months PASS
Premium Access System Server where all new software packages apper on this server first then at a later date, the public servers get the packages.
So, my system is fully updated.
Cheers

Definitely wasn't on the 1st search page.  Haven't been around here in a while to have missed that.  Thanx....

Bald Brick,
the Update Package Source List  is still present in my Menu and it works very well, even though I don't use it having a PASS.

Having it installed on your system is not an indicator of its being in the repository.

Neal Man Bear,
well..just for my curiosity.
if the apt-sources-list has been removed a year ago and is not in the repository, how come the Update Package source is present in my LXDE which I dowloaded/installed this April ?
 ???

Simple. The ISO you downloaded was created by updating the previous ISO, which was created by updating the previous ISO, which was created by updating the previous ISO, which had it installed.
