I'm using Software Data Cable from Google Play Store when I transfer files to my Galaxy Nexus from PCLOS and it works fine. So far the only minor gripe I have is needing to use root mode to do this which isn't a big issue for me. My wife has a Nexus 7 but since she uses Windows 7 it has never been an issue for her. I will be glad when the entire mtpfs issue is completely resolved rather than having to use a work around.

"It appears Google and Co. have tried to make this only a little difficult - they only permit the device to mount as a media device or camera instead of as a storage device (something my wife's Nook Tablet, for example, does and does very nicely, thank you).  For what we are doing here, mount it as a media device (which it does by default)"

they are not doing it to make it difficult for you, not the reason, when you mount a device in mtp mode, it is available for both the device and the os where you mount it, this way you can keep using files and apps stored on the device while you access the contents on the device from the os, something extremely important if you use apps2sd, different to usb mass storage device

i have experienced some problems when using my phone that way, some apps start working weird and had problems with the partition, finally had to format the sd card

another solution is use the app airdroid, offer the storage as a resource on your local network and access it from your web browser
The front camera is not accessible while skype calls and also it failed in many apps too. When there was a conference call it will not work either.

{snip:  previous about connecting a Nexus 7 to a computer or network for data transfer - D }

The front camera is not accessible while skype calls and also it failed in many apps too. When there was a conference call it will not work either.

Not meaning to be impolite, but, if I may suggest it, your post seems sufficiently different from the original topic here to warrant a separate thread.  This thread is several weeks old and may not get you the attention your issues call for.

I have absolutely no expertise in Skype for Android, nor in videoconferencing, but to even take a shot at figuring this one out, we'd need to know more.  The hardware platform would seem to be a Nexus 7, but maybe I'm assuming to much?  Skype is one of the apps at issue.  You mention videoconferencing - what app are you using for that?

I don't want to download Skype because I get enough of that on my PC at work.  (We use it for videoconferencing while troubleshooting problems across our Building Automation System.)

Please open a new thread, tell us a bit more, and maybe we will be able to help.  No guarantees, though - this is not, strictly speaking, an Android/Nexus 7 forum, it's a PCLinuxOS forum, but several of us do use tablets and smartphones, so ya never know...  ;)

I've been up too many hours again - working off-shift covering a colleague, and I'm getting a little crunchy in the brain, so I'm gonna go bunky now (get some sleep for you non-milspec types).

hello and welcome to the forum Diana

"The front camera is not accessible while skype calls and also it failed in many apps too. When there was a conference call it will not work either."

what relation has the camera on your device to transfer files wireless from it to your computer?

no one mentioned skype on the post or replies, i never used skype in my life, other than install it for others on a laptop, no idea what is the inconvenient you are experiencing, if the device is still under the 1 year warranty, ask for help with the manufacturer

about failing apps, no idea what problem you experienced and with what apps, so we can't hep you there

we could try to help you with your problems using the device with pclinux, not the device itself

if you had problems with it you could try to do a factory reset of it first, before applying warrant but we can't support your device in a linux forum, that is a android device sold by a specific company and in that route you can find help with it

FYI the last iso I built in mid 2012, worked just fine recognizing a Nexus 7 without any hacks or workarounds period, it was simply plug-and-play just like a USB stick or any other volume, and you could drag-n-drop files normally.

Now most who know me, know I don't do "rolling release", so as per normal, I did not do updates for months, everything continued to work fine.

Decided to chance it and update in late January, as usual there were some minor glitches, nothing too bad.

Just got around to trying to connect the Nexus again, and now it won't automatically connect as it did before, won't connect at all mostly, though I can get it to recognize it as a camera with some fiddling.

So, something in one of those updates, broke this connectivity, it's as simple as that. And it was simply never tested before the update got pushed.

I can provide a list of the specific files that got updated if anyone cares or would like to help troubleshoot the matter.

This aggression will not stand man.

I'm just seeing this after a long stretch at overtime with shift changes thrown in for good measure. Forgive me my ignorance of your work.  Are you the fellow doing the Phoenix or Phinx releases?  (Just a SWAG on my part...)

I'm not sure how much help I will be, but let's see what you have.  If we can restore the kind of functionality you're talking about here, it'll be worth the effort.  Perhaps in earlier editions there was some scripting going on to support automounting of mtp devices?  Anyhow, let's see what we can see.

Just getting back to this after a long time away from it.  Further experiments with mtpfs and fusermount tools have proved less than consistent in the long run (for me, anyway).   To make matters worse, Airdroid seems to have altered their business model to include more BS and less effective transfer.  Thus I entered into a search for a better wireless transfer app.

Boy, did I ever find one!  It's called WiFi File Transfer Pro.  It cost a little under a buck and a half from Google Play, works across different WiFi networks without batting an eyelash, has no ads, no BS, root mode is not required, and it just WORKS.

I'm in the process of uploading some anime to my tablet as I write, and have already used it several times prior to this without the first sign of a hitch. It's fast, reliable, repeatable, and consistent.

Just thought I'd update this to share the good news.

Thanks for the tip! I have been using Airdroid for the longest time to transfer movies to my tablet so I can watch them on the HDMI TV.  The last update Airdroid changed a lot of features which makes it less appealing.  I will give WiFi File Transfer Pro a run.
