"The one and only time I used Airdroid I lost my WiFi connection and it was a real pain to get it back. I finally had to uninstall Airdroid to reconnect to my wireless modem"

i have used alot airdroid in the last year and never could make it fail like that

sounds like a interesting problem to solve, how is configured your network?  is a modem with router and a antenna or do you have a modem connected to a wireless router?

if airdroid doesn't work for you, there is other apps with similar capabilities that can work as ftp server online, not only as a local resource, it is a matter of test what is offered
I don't need Airdroid right now as I can use Software Data Cable to transfer files. I have a cable modem connected to a wired router which then connects to a wireles router for my phone. It is that router that my PCLOS box is connected to. My wife has a Win7 PC which is connected to the wired router. Airdroid may be a fine program but it was troublesome for me and I've uninstalled it. In the meantime it seems that all is well and my problem is solved. Thanks again everyone.

seeing that your network is different to mine could explain your problems using it

anyway, as you say yousolved your problem

I only kept the wired router because my wife didn't want to be connected to the wifi. (?) Her PC doesn't have a wireless card either. Yes, the problem is solved but I've found it strange that I have to be in root mode in Krusader to copy files to my phone. User mode won't do it but it's a minor inconvenience and still a very worthwhile tradeoff to have access.

Best,
Bob

what version of airdroid did you tested?

more than 5 months ago?

there is other popular options like this one

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xcxin.filexpert&feature=search_result

i just insist on wireless solutions because mount partitions in android is a bit problematic and since most partitions are fat32(at least on most phones i used), easier to break them

Does this app allow file transfer via usb??

UPDATE I installed this app but it doesn't appear to support usb transfer like Software Data Cable does. I'll play with it more and see what it can do. Thanks.

The Airdroid I used was only a couple of months ago. Right now I don't seem to need it as I have Software Data Cable that works. My only gripe with it is that it times out and I have to reconnect.

Could it be that this is because you are copying to / (root) of the phone itself?

i'm glad that you have reported that Software Cable works for you.  This tells me that i probably installed a bunch of stuff i don't really need in my attempt to achieve what Software Cable provides.  Gotta clean it up a little and see which ones i can now do without.

Thanks for your updates and have a great evening!  :)

No. I'm not copying to the root of the phone rather the music folder. I get a message saying that I can't drag and drop. It doesn't really matter since it's easy to go into root mode. My bluetooth dongle came today and I was able to configure it but I can't see where copied files are afterward. Mp3 files don't want to copy even though I don't get an error message yet jpg files easily transfer even though I can't find them. :) However, I can access my music folder and all of the mp3s. Go figure?  At this point the bluetooth transfer option isn't relevant since I can copy with Software Data Cable. I think this problem is solved so thank you again for your help.

Understand that I didn't originate this thread. Instead I merely added to it a thread which Horusfalcon opened long ago and was never marked SOLVED. I'd mark it solved if it were my thread but as I pointed out it isn't.

Hey, frazell09,

Just to let you know, but Bob can't really do that... I am the original poster for the thread, and it didn't start out as a problem report.  ;)  I would gently suggest that when reporting problems with their systems, it's usual for folks to start their own threads, please?  I'm seeing at least three other folks here with similar issues approaching this from three different angles.  (No problem with batting around ideas here, but we've strayed somewhat far afield.  Part of the fault is mine, as I haven't had the time to participate in the thread like I should have.)

For that matter, Mods, a question?  As tablet use becomes more prevalent among PCLinuxOS users, might it be beneficial to have an area just for tablet-related threads?  (Just a random thought...)

I'm still working evenings (gotta go in just a few minutes for my last shift of the week), but I hope to get back to the original issue this week sometime (that being establishing a reliable USB connection method for the Nexus 7 with PCLinuxOS.)  I'm not out of aces yet on that, just been very busy lately.

Later On,

I thought about starting a new thread on this but it seemed to be on topic and the thread was still open so I merely added a question(hijacked it). Next time I'll simply post a new thread. Thanks.

Folks, I've just successfully completed another file transfer via the USB Cable (which was my original intent), but it has had some, er, interesting side-effects, so first let me enumerate my environment:  I use 2012.08 Maint. Release with KDE-4 and LXDE installed.  I am doing all this from LXDE.

I think I may have been right about ~/media (read that:  "your home directory"/media) being a poor choice for this.  I created a folder called ~/000_USB/Nexus_7, and issued the appropriate mount command from the shell:

Code: [Select]
[goofy@localhost ~]$ mtpfs ~/000_USB/Nexus_7
This gained me access to the folders on the tablet.  I opened PCManFM to access them, but it froze.  I wound up having to end the process with CTRL-ALT-ESC, and started Dolphin, since it usually runs well enough in LXDE.  It was very slow, but finally accessed the folder.  I transferred two large files (videos) to the Movies folder on the tablet and this took a long time, with Dolphin messaging about "unable to change permissions" on the files...

Unmounting the tablet:

Code: [Select]
[goofy@localhost ~]$ fusermount -u ~/000_USB/Nexus_7
enabled me to successfully detach the tablet from the USB cable.  The files are where they should be, and are accessible by the apps I use to play back video.

I don't have time to play with this too much more right now - I'm on my way to work in just a few.  I'll pick this back up on Monday.

Airdroid is hit and miss for me because of a wifi issue with my laptop since the 2012 upgrade that I'll tackle later - I've seen this before and can't remember what I had to do to make it work (frakkin' Broadcom wifi adapter! grrr!)

More when I know it, folks.

lets hope this mtpfs gets more mature because the last time i used it, only worked the first time, second time every folder was empty and i didn't had permission to copy or gave errors, can't remember

that is when i choose airdroid
