so you have ports closed in your firewall

could you verify the settings on the firewall?

i have discovered that the best browser to open this type of addresses is firefox, try with that one and see results

be sure to use the right address

192.168.0.100 is not common, sure it is not 192.168.1.100?  what are you trying to reach?  a machine in your local network?  the address sounds like something airdroid uses

If you can use the app i mentioned, it gives the full ftp address.

Have you tried it?

Have a great evening!  :)

Frazelle, I've entered exactly what my phone app shows just as I stated previously 192.168.0.100 and if I enter "everything" including :8888/ then I get a Error: the directory ftp://8888 does not exist. No matter whether I use port 8888 or port 21(default in Krusader) it times out every time. In a previous response T6 mentined a firewall but I've not configured my firewall, merely leaving the security at the default settings.

I'm trying to access a local machine and not a network. My firewall isn't configured and the address is exactly what the app returns on my phone and instructs me to enter that address. Firefox returns this error:

The connection has timed out
The server at 192.168.0.100 is taking too long to respond.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I have repeated this process many many times with always the same result.
Thank you for taking the time to try and help me with this.

O.k., guys, perhaps we need to step back a little and make sure we're all on the same page...

First, we need to make sure we're using the same app.  Mine says Software Data Cable v3.1.5 by Dami App Team.

If we're ok at this step, then we start the app by touching the Start Service button located in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.  In the middle of the screen should appear "ftp://192.xxx.xxx.xxx:8888/"

Does this look right?

Have a great morning!  :)

First of all i'm running a rooted Samsung -- maybe that has something to do with the situation...

However, you know, i was looking at some of the other apps i installed while trying to get a USB connection and some others appear to be:

root checker, USB Device Info, USB Host Control, USB Host Diagnostic and VX ConnectBot

As you can see i was also pretty desperate.  i haven't had time to begin to disinstall the ones i don't need - who knows, maybe i need all of them! - lol.

The top bar of my screen - when i pull it down - has a line which says - Android debugging enabled.  Select to disable debugging.

However i don't remember where i set this up from!  Aha!  i swiped it and got a menu "Developer options".

i hope this helps - have a great afternoon!  :)

debugging is disabled but still no joy. It continues to time out. My phone is completely un-rooted and until my warranty ends I'll leave it that way. In the meantime I've ordered a bluetooth to usb adapter for $6 incl. shipping and will see if that works. If not then I'll continue to stream from Google Music. In the meantime, thanks for your time and help even though this was unsuccessful. I do appreciate your interest in helping. Until next time, thank you.

The one and only time I used Airdroid I lost my WiFi connection and it was a real pain to get it back. I finally had to uninstall Airdroid to reconnect to my wireless modem. Thanks but I think I'll avoid Airdroid. Too many bugs. If it turns out that this app is the only tool that works I'll just continue using Google Play.

what is the transfer speed of a bluetooth?  1 mbps at the best case?  i think is alot less, move 3 or 4 gbs of files with bluetooth is terribly slow and you need two bluetooth devices

on desktop is not common to have it and make it work as expected is a bit complicated i think

wifi or usb are faster and more stable connections

i moved 2 gbs of songs from the phone to the pc, it took some minutes with airdroid

about the route used, are you writing ftp?

airdroid just ask for the address, for example mine is asking for 192.168.1.127:8888 and that is what i write in the address bar, no ftp or http

the 127 is thanks to the wrt firmware on my router, with dlink firmware it was 100 or 101

in the airdroid you can force another ip with another port if the one you gave is not working well

Well folks, it looks like I solved my problem by re-thinking my setup and making some changes. While I know it sounds backwards and unnecessary, I had my PCLOS box wired to a router then my wireless router was being fed from the wired router since I didn't have a wifi card. By reasoning that perhaps the phone and PC needed to be on the same page I connected my ethernet cable to the wireless router and reconnected my phone to PCLOS and entered the ftp address once more. This time a window opened asking for login info and low and behold after I entered the login I immediately had my phone contents listed in Krusader. I copied a few mp3s to my music folder then selected one to play and it PLAYED! Until I thought about it more it had not occurred to me that this might have been the problem all along. Thanks to all who participated in helping me on this issue. All of you were great and I truly appreciate each and every one of you. ;D

All the best,
Bob

i have used alot airdroid in the last year and never could make it fail like that

sounds like a interesting problem to solve, how is configured your network?  is a modem with router and a antenna or do you have a modem connected to a wireless router?

if airdroid doesn't work for you, there is other apps with similar capabilities that can work as ftp server online, not only as a local resource, it is a matter of test what is offered
