[SOLVED] How To Get Old Style Copy/Move Notifications?
« on: September 18, 2012, 10:28:00 PM »
I had this function enabled, but for some reason it disappeared after I tweaked the system.  :P

When I move/copy a file or a directory I want the old style notification window that shows how many files have been moved / how much time remains / and the option to stop the transfer.

How do I get this back?

UPDATE: using KDE/Konq.  8)

I am assuming KDE (you did not say)

I am assuming Dolphin (you did not say)

In Dolphin, Go to Settings/ Configure Dolphin

Under "General" you should see the options for turning confirmations On/Off .

Hope this helps. ;)

I was thinking about the system tray.

About the 'notification and jobs' that you right click it and then click 'notification settings' and uncheck the 'application notification' and 'file transfers and other jobs'.  ;D

I have made assumptions just as Rudge has.  :D

No, that is the notification that I currently have. I get the timer, but I want the old style with the indicator bar and the info on how many files have been moved. Like on KD3.

No, I did not find the option for turning confirmations on/off in Dolphin.  ???

The same thing is being discussed in KDE forums :
http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=89469

I will post a request there for the exact details of fixing it.

Oh! That is an old thread from 2010. Doubt anything will come out of it.

If you can not find a solution for dolphin perhaps consider krusader.
Been using it for several years now, it is one of the first packages I look for on a new install.
Never could get away with konqueror and not too keen on dolphin, all a matter of preference.

For large/lots of files/slow transfers over USB , there is a progress indicator as well.

in your panel, do you still have the system tray?

if so, right-click in a free space and you can change the settings. Enable notifications.

if not, unlock Widgets, right-click the panel, choose "add widget" and add the system tray to the panel again.

sorry if the names don't fit, my system's localization is not English.
All that is is good. PCLinuxOS is.

Yes, I have the system tray. Yes, I have Notifications enabled. But I do not have the old style file transfer notifications. I have the new "Notification Alert" that shows task and the time left.

I know the old style is still available, I had it a week ago. But now it's gone due to my tinkering.  :o

I have no idea what that might have looked like ......

When copying a directory from one location to another I get the following information

source:
destination:
progress bar
speed of transfer
the name of the file currently being transferred
estimated time to completion
number of currently transferring file out of a total number

when completed it gives the number of files transferred

I really see no reason to want anything more .......  but maybe you could tell us what is missing from this that you require?

Solved. For all who will face the same problem in the future: all you'll have to do is, of course, to uncheck the box "File transfers and other jobs" in the notifications settings and, this is the trick, to reboot. After that, the file transfer window inside Krusader will be back again. Good luck!

That reboot immediately seems to be quite important. There are other similar posts too.

BINGO! That "reboot" did it! ;D
Thnx guys!

Not since Windoze have I seen an OS garner so many complaints as KD4. If this version had been my intro to Lin I probably would've stayed in Gates' cesspool. Luckily most (but not all) of my  issues can be easily resolved with addons and tweaks.

KDE is not the OS! it is simply the desktop!  If you are not happy with it there are many others to choose from that might suit your needs better.

Something with your link is screwy.  If you click on it, it trys going to

pclinuxos.com/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/468810-file-transfer-notification-kde-4-7-opensuse-12-1-a.html

of course it gives you and error 404 file not found.

If someone had tell me that when I first used Linux probably had say "OK, OK" and still don't understand a thing, maybe later I just checked and probably tried; If you say that to my wife probably she would say: "Oh no, what more?"  "is it different?"  "Do I have to begin again?"  "I don't have time for all that just reinstall what I had"
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.
