My wife grew up in New Orleans. I showed her this topic and she said that she has never heard of shrimp and grits. In fact, she never had grits until she visited Alabama many years later.

now I have to go search what ye all mean by "grits" .........  grit appears to have a different meaning altogether, as I cannot imagine anyone willingly consuming grit  :D

damn sandbox!

EDIT:

Ah! ..........  porridge!   ;D  ;D

hominy that has been dehydrated and then ground up and cooking the grits re-constitutes it. My momma used to make hominy when I was kid in the mountains of W.Va. it is made by soaking fresh corn kernels in a lye solution. I eat grits almost once a week for breakfast, and I agree that grits only get butter and salt and pepper, and fried eggs,  but not shrimp.

So far, some interesting feed back.  ;D ;D

For me, at first, It seemed like a "reach".

Trying to turn a traditionally (for breakfast only) ingredient into a savory main course by adding a delicacy and some hocus pocus.

But after some thought it boils down to this.

Grits are corn, and corn is a starch like bread. It's like corn meal.

Well, I have had fried shrimp with a cornmeal batter.

If you replace the fat in the frying process with the fat from bacon and replace the cornmeal batter with grits.....

In theory,,, it should work as a valid dish.

I am going to have to give this a serious shot.

Wish me luck. ;)

I was having breakfast one day with a fellow fisherman in a little diner in the heart of Alabama.

He says to the waitress, "Honey , I love the taste of grits so much I need a double helping."
She says, "Sho thing."

His breakfast arrives with a massive plate of grits on the side. He then proceeds to slop a half pound of butter on it. Salt , Pepper, Pancake syrup and more stuff than I remember.

He digs in and smiles this great big smile and says to me, "Damn, I love the taste of grits."

Shrimp and grits? I was born and raised in Atlanta Ga USA and I never heard of "Shrimp And Grits".

I've noticed restaurants here tend to leave the salt out of the cooking process which leaves the grits tasting like cardboard.  Add a little butter and you're good to go.

Thanks Neal. It's tasty but I'm tweaking it's appearance.

All that white, needs some contrast I think. I'll think of something.   ???

Your green onions are bunched up. Spread them out a bit and add more. ;)
