Re: 2.6.x Kernel: Audio. 3.x kernels: No audio. Help! (SOLVED)
« on: September 18, 2012, 07:42:46 AM »
I just installed a fresh copy of 2012.8 on my laptop, which is my production machine for my business.  I produce audio for a living.

The old kernel works just fine, but the new kernel series (.bfs and .bfs.pae) give no audio.  I've verified this by installing them all at the same time.

I have checked settings and there is nothing muted.  All volumes are at maximum in the Mixer.  This is what the hardware control center report on my audio hardware is:

Quote
Identification
Vendor: ‎NVIDIA Corporation

Description: ‎GF106 High Definition Audio Controller

Media class: ‎Audio device

PCI domain: ‎0

Bus PCI #: ‎1

PCI device #: ‎0

Device ID: ‎0x0be9

Sub vendor ID: ‎0x17aa

Sub device ID: ‎0x21cf

Driver
Module: ‎snd_hda_intel

Alternative drivers: ‎unknown

The second audio device listed is as follows:

Quote
Vendor: ‎Intel Corporation

Description: ‎6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller

Media class: ‎Audio device

Connection
Bus: ‎PCI Express

PCI domain: ‎0

Bus PCI #: ‎0

PCI device #: ‎27

Sub vendor ID: ‎0x17aa

Sub device ID: ‎0x21cf

Alternative drivers: ‎unknown

I am running a Lenovo W520 laptop.

Is this the kernel itself, as it seems to me to be?  If not, how to I go about enabling audio?  I don't mind running the old kernel because it works, but the new kernel was much snappier.

Thanks in advance for the help ladies and gentlemen.

I have solved this problem.

The problem was that the "speaker" channel was not enabled in KMIX.  Settings>Configure Channels>Speaker to visible.  Yay!
