Hello. I wish to allow a personal video recorder (pvr) to share my computer's connection to the internet. At this point I don't know whether to use PCC to do anything and, if so, what. I would appreciate advice.
The pvr is not directly connected to the router. Instead, I am using a device called "
WD Livewire" which is supposed to allow connection to the router using electricity cables. It comprises two units which are identical. You plug one into the router and into your mains power. You plug the other into the mains power and connect it with an ethernet cable to the pvr. A light next to the cable socket on the pvr indicates that it is connected.
There is set-up software but, of course, it is written for Windows.
I have been trying to add the machine via PCC > Network and Internet > Share the internet connection with other local machines. When I enter that section this is the message on the page:
You are about to configure your computer to share its Internet connection.
With that feature, other computers on your local network will be able to use this computer's Internet connection.
Make sure you have configured your Network/Internet access using drakconnect before going any further.
Note: you need a dedicated Network Adapter to set up a Local Area Network (LAN). Please disable PCLinuxOS Firewall for the network adapter connected to your LAN connection before proceeding.
I believe I have configured access because I am using the connection (obviously). Stopping Firestarter from running seems to make no difference to the result.
The next page I see states:
No ethernet network adapter configured for LAN has been detected on your system.
Please run the hardware configuration tool to configure it and ensure that the PCLinuxOS firewall is not enabled for network adapter connected to your LAN network.
The hardware section displays no device described as an "ethernet network adapter."
I tried "Configure VPN connection to secure network access" but that did not connect the pvr.
I also tried to use Firestarter to share the access but Firestarter informed me that the device could not share with itself.
I can find nowhere in the
router settings to add a device which the router does not detect.
