USB-3 card that works
« on: September 15, 2012, 12:14:46 AM »
Couldn't find this info in the search, but I have this card in my Windows machine.  That machine also boots to PCLOS, so checked it out. Koutech IO-PEU433 is a pcie card with 3 external connections and one internal.
It's expensive, but it worked right off with PCLOS 64-bit.  (I hope it works with 32-bit, because I just ordered another one for my "real" Linux machine.  Note: Windows needs a driver, but PCLOS "just works."
LSPCI says the guts are from VIA Technologies. I think it's being phased out, but Amazon has a few.

I don't have USB 3 here, but at worst, you might need to load the driver in your 32 bit install, after which all should be OK.

lsmod | grep -i xhci

should show whether the driver is loaded or not.

Later kernels (I am presently using 2.6.38) natively support USB3, IIRC.

Evidently, it's not. I"m running 32 bit KDE with the latest kernel. The command returns nothing. I don't need it since I don't have any USB3 devices.

Well, if you have no USB3 devices, there is no reason for it to be loaded.
