[Solved]
« on: September 14, 2012, 11:53:57 PM »
A lot of users post a lot of questions about things that have gone slightly off with their install.

Most of the time this forum is able to assist with such matters and most of the time the issues get fixed and thus, documented.

There are a few of us, however that never ask questions.

We tend to figure out these little problems on our own and no one is ever aware that the problem even exists.

I bring this up because tonight, I ran into a strange problem.

YouTube videos were showing people's faces as shades of blue instead of flesh colors.

I don't know why they were showing that and no other videos showed up like that,, the point here is that I did an extensive search on the forum and found no such reference to the issue.

The reason, I reckoned was that the problem was solved by people like me that never bothered with starting a thread, therefore it was never documented.

Asking for help not only solves problems but it also documents fixes for problems.

In my case (with the blue faces) all I needed to do was disable hardware acceleration in Flash player options but I have fixed many small problems on my own that were never documented because I never "Asked For Help" with the problem.

Why such a long post?

Perhaps there should be a "Topic" where we can document problems that we have fixed by ourselves.

It would give a "search" for the problem a greater chance of finding solutions.

Maybe "Tips And Tricks" is where the information should go.

I just always thought of "Tips And Tricks" as being a place to put things when your install was working. I never thought about it being a place to document problems.

I could swear that there was a recent post about weird colors when playing you tube videos, and the solution was to turn off the hardware acceleration.  I believe it was Just19 that gave the answer to it.

There have been several threads.  At least one mentioned 'smurfs'.

Does anyone know what the "Search Parameters" were? I couldn't find any topics that referenced the issue.

Yes I had the strange color thing going on too.  I am sure I read about the answer here, but the point about not asking and just searching is kind of true.  I bet 95% of the time I find answers and never post anything - but then again I am finding the answers so someone must have posted something before - it seems to be working vary well for me.

Normally any problem I have is fresh and the topic is current so just checking the forum gets a lot of answers and several time I have read answers to problems I was going to have and didn't even have yet.  Just knowing an up date may cause a problem is good information.  I normally check about the forum before I run the updates to see what is happening and what issues others have run into.

I guess that in part explains why my post count is also 90% sandbox - but if you install and run the Maytag of distro's that is going to happen.  ::)

searched "flash plug in" if I recall

At last I find the solution to this little problem.  I don't view flash video very often but it is very irritating.

Thanks,
