<SOLVED>2012.08+kmail2
« on: September 12, 2012, 11:06:47 PM »
Hi to all,
I have 2012.08+kmail2 installed on a 160GB Sata 2-7200  HDD.
Nvidia video, 4GB ram on a ASUS M3N78-VM motherboard. The CPU is a 2.7GHz AMD dual core chip.
I am having kmail2 failure due to segmentation errors with the system asking if I want to restart kmail, which I do.
However when kmail2 restarts, all my emails are now unread.
Also kmail2 seems very sluggish, waiting a long time between doing tasks that kmail1 does in an instant.
Any thoughts on how I can cure this problem?
I have run memtest on the ram, and the smartcontrol software on the HDD. Both report no errors, smart after 4hours and memtest after 3 hours.
So I assume ram and disk are all right?

kmail2 is a pain, to put it politely. I did a write up on my journey, in software discussion.

In the end I gave up with the conversion, and did kmail2 from scratch redoing all configs, and then importing old mail. Remember to back up your mail.
Kmail2 runs nicely when working. Much more complicated on the back end.

Hi Phil,
well, I did a reinstall, updated with synaptic, rebooted.
Then imported my saved synaptic data and installed about 1500 packages.
Had dinner.
Came back logged out and rebooted.
Kmail2 now runs fast. BUT, I cannot receive any emails. Just nothing happens.
Everything seems to be set up correctly, but nothing comes in.
In my original post, I was receiving email, but everything was unstable.
I can have unstable or no reception?
I am still on 2012.02 at this time. I do not think kmail2 is ready for the general public.
I read your writeup, but I think I did most of it except for migrating kmail to kmail2. I got no mention of importing anything.
I used the import function in kmai2 to bring the structure in. That is where I found kamil2 so sluggish, talking forever to recreate the kmail structure.
Do you know what is in 2012.06? I have not tried that iso. I am actually waiting for a fully working 64 bit PCLinuxOS to come.
Many thanks for your reply.
