Cannot use OpenGL Sceensavers
« on: September 13, 2012, 10:03:41 AM »
Is anyone else having issues using the openGL screensavers. like, solar winds and euphoria?

I can see then in the screensaver selection. But their thumbnail animation wont show up. And nor will they activate when I click on "test".
Am I missing a package? Or are they just not supported by PCLOS anymore?

The xscreensavers aren't supported by KDE anymore. Why they are still listed in System Settings is a mystery.

But you can still run the xscreensavers under KDE (as you could before they were integrated into KDE). Archie has posted what you should do. I'll try to find the thread.

Edit. Here you are: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,108172.msg924882.html#msg924882

Edit 2. It seems that the OpenGL screensavers that aren't available although they are listed in System Settings aren't the unsupported xscreensavers but native KDE screensavers that just aren't installed. Why they are listed when they aren't there is still a mystery.

There are a couple of other posts about this - and the answer keeps coming back to xscreensavers.

The OpenGl screensavers were a part of KDE.  The one I always used was Euphoria and it is in:
/usr/bin/keuphoria.kss

I checked in:
SimplyMEPIS • 12-alpha2 - KDE4.8.4
and
Mageria 2 KDE 4.8.5

and the OpenGL screensavers work fine.
So - what is going on?

Me too. I also liked FluxGL. I hope someone finds a way to bring them back.

I hate to revive an old thread, but has there been any progress on this? I'd love to get that euphoria screensaver back...
