old athlons didn't had the memory controller in the cpu, it remained on the mainboardi have seen atlhon cpus in hybrid mainboards with both ddr266 and pc133 ram slots, most of them low quality mainboards that didn't survived but those cpus could work that way, what i never did was try to make them work with both ram modules, only had pc133 or ddr266 at that time, no idea if it could work with both simultaneously, probably not
Seems strange that an Athlon would use SDRAM. I have an old Athlon that uses DDR. Amazon has some SDRAM that's cheap. http://www.amazon.com/Generic-512-MB-PC133-SDRAM/dp/B000068IKV/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_0_2
Quote from: T6 on September 13, 2012, 11:29:56 AMit is easier and since it is a good cpu, find a 512 ram pc133 module than try to make a slow usb 1.1 port work as a extremely slow ram module, if possibleNot that easy...... (at least here). Faced out long time ago. IF found the price would likely justify buying a new mainboard etc. End of fun.I agree, a bit of luck and finding one or two of these 512Mb´s would do the trick but my hopes on this are slim.

Those are SODIMM, 144 pin for laptop. I think he needs 168 pin.

I think he needs 168 pin. You're right, my bad.Heck these are even cheaper with free shipping if he can use high density ramhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/1GB-KIT-512MB-x2-PC133-PC100-PC-133-RAM-SDRAM-MEMORY-/180524480793?pt=US_Memory_RAM_&hash=item2a0818f919
Facts about High Density RamThis advertisement is for high density memory. Please make sure your motherboard is compatible with this module. It works well if it is compatible with your system. However, typically it is far less compatible than low density. In case, this high density memory you order is not compatible with your motherboard, we can assist you exchange it for a low density memory but on payment of cost differential.

I can see this PC getting its second life now. Just have to find out how, heheheOne thing I am not aware of: low against high density.... (never noticed something like that.). Then I find it strange with these dimms available overseas that I can´t locate them here... Hmmm, maybe I have to look in different corners as well?I am going to try to find info about this mobo and its high and/or low density specs. Thanks so far to all of you.

The memory that I posted are from California and you can actually drop them a email asking if the memory will work with or in your machine. Their address is service at koybe dot comIn your email tell them what model machine you have and they can tell you if it will work with high density ram and if it won't they can tell you which ram it will work with and if they have it on hand.
I have a pile of old memory sticks. I don't know how to read the part numbers for what they are, but if you tell me a part number for 512 MB or 1024 MB or whatever you can plug in, I'll take a look, and you can have 2 or 4or whatever for postage. I'm in NY, USA. --doug
