[SOLVED] - Kernel flavor selection

I could not find anything on this forum which talks about the various flavors of the kernel and which flavor is recommended for which system. From what I can tell, taking kernel-3.2.18-pclos2* as an example, there are:

• kernel-3.2.18-pclos2 - this is the vanilla i686 kernel
• kernel-3.2.18-pclos2.a64 - vanilla kernel optimized for AMD processors (what does this mean?)
• kernel-3.2.18-pclos2.bfs - the vanilla i686 kernel with the BFS (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_Fuck_Scheduler) scheduler instead of the vanilla CFS (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Completely_Fair_Scheduler). Can someone explain in simple english the advantage of BFS?
• kernel-3.2.18-pclos2.pae - the vanilla i686 kernel with PAE (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension) to allow for accessing more than 4GB of RAM. Is there anything else PEA does for you?
• kernel-3.2.18-pclos2.pae.bfs - the above two options combined

The ultimate question I want to get an answer for is what do I need to check on my laptop to figure out which kernel is best for me?
