Pulse Audio Settings Urgent Help Please. [solved with thanks ]
« on: September 09, 2012, 09:42:07 AM »
Pre-Note Added.
To install pulse-Audio use 'Task pulse audio' in synaptic then to go to >pcc> Hardware>Sound Configuration>Tick the box 'Enable PulseAudio'  >reboot

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problems on three machines that I have installed Pulse on, my daughters laptop That she needs next week working for uni ! and two desktop machines (All with different specs) that we want to use 'Skype' on them .
Two machines the volume is allways launched 'dis-enabled' and the other launches after boot up with volume enabled   :(

I tried to follow tex's post    http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,83740.0.html

Quote from: Just17 on September 07, 2012, 10:07:04 PM
A connection problem for pavucontrol could be related to a file problem which has happened to a few users.

The    /etc/pulse/default.pa    file is blank and replacing it with       /etc/pulse/default.pa.rpmnew   was the cure.

If you have that default.pa.rpmnew file then do the following ......

Rename /etc/pulse/default.pa    to    /etc/pulse/default.pa.bak and then

copy   /etc/pulse/default.pa.rpmnew   to   /etc/pulse/default.pa

Reboot and see if PulseAudio Volume Control app now launches correctly.

If you do not have

/etc/pulse/default.pa.rpmnew

then let us know please.

@just 17   I have seen your other post  Wink     http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,108678.0.html

On the laptop I have

# ls -l /etc/pulse/
total 20
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1285 Aug 21 20:46 client.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2508 Aug 21 20:46 daemon.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5664 Aug 21 20:46 default.pa
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2284 May 15 10:10 system.pa

Any urgent help please

Hi,
lets take them one at a time.

Laptop first ......  it is not clear what the problem is with this specific PC.

Please describe what the user 'sees' and how (if any) the problem is overcome after each boot.

It would also be very useful if a 'test' user account is set up on the laptop so that a comparison can be made between the main user account and the other, to determine if the problem is system-wide or a user account problem.

Please do that and let us know if the problem is on one or both accounts.

@pclinmike,

if you are going to be her tech support when she is away, you may need to familiarize yourselves with teamviewer, its in the repository and it will allow you to remotely log in to her computer and fix things when things break.

It will be a lot easier for you to log in,share her screen and fix things than to explain to her over the phone or email or skype.

.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

It looks like it's a user problem, I logged into my account on the laptop and it seemed ok.
Then opening a second user (my daughter), When her desktop opens you hear a 'click' from the speakers and then the speaker icon shows next to the clock, but it is just a speaker and no lines to the RHS, clicking on that icon to open up the slider shows its 'muted' with a red x clicking that un-mutes it.
Looking in .pulse in her home folder I can not see any thing to change the settings.

Seems that the mute setting for Kmix is set .....  on a reboot, after ensuring the Kmis volume is not muted before going down, does it always come up muted?

You can also check PulseAudio Volume Control Output Devices tab and ensure the output is not muted there.

The real question now is .....  is the problem repeatable on each boot?

EDIT
Maybe one of the 'mute' settings in   ~/.kde4/share/config/kmixctrlrc  is set to 'true' and is causing this?

Thanks  ;)

So that is one down and two to go? .........  or have the problems with the other two been resolved by some of the above posts?

If not start the second one now and we'll see if there is anything we can suggest ........
