Just a random thought .....  it can sometimes happen that an ext(2/3/4) partition is created but the formatting is not done after creation ....  in which case the utility could fail.  ;)  ...  particularly if using the utilities in PCC ......  IIRC the two actions are separate.

Good point and since I reformatted when I switched to EXT3 that could have unintentionally solved the problem.

Okay some experimenting and yes it does work from ext4 as advertised. As an experiment I interrupted formating (using PCLOS CC tool)  and type changed to Linux Native. Didn't try to actually use it to make a LiveUSB nor did I retry the experiment again to see if the result was repeatable.
