<Answered>Live USB Creator Stalls
« on: September 08, 2012, 10:25:37 PM »
I'm trying to make a USB copy of my remaster but when I get to the choose partition screen the screen just disappears for a few seconds and comes back with the partition  I have selected un selected. This is a USB I previously used for a live USB and I reformatted it EXT4. No error message so I'm not sure what is going on. Does it need to be EXT3?

First of all use ext3
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

It will accept ext4.

The error is most likely that you had not deliberately clicked on the partition you wished to select before clicking OK.

Yes, I clicked on the partition each of the several times I tried it. That was my first thought that somehow the click wasn't being recognized. The instructions just say EXT so I didn't think having EXT4 was a problem but it worked the first time with EXT3. Of course then the next problem happened. I realized could not choose an .iso file in user home where my .iso was. :) It's burnt and I'm a happy camper. Thanks all.

There is something the matter someplace if the above is true .......  it does work with ext4 file systems, and the ISO can be chosen from wherever it is located ...  in user home or elsewhere.

It was for me. I didn't take a screen shot of my location choices for the .iso. If I have a chance I'll try it again to see if I can get you a screen shot. I must have started from scratch at least a half dozen times before I gave up and made a livecd to use. Maybe I didn't know what to click.

Your user account is under   /home   and anything you have stored there will be under that.

So clicking on  home  should show your user account.

I will try again but I'm reasonably sure it showed the contents of roots home not users. I tried it I know several times because that is the behavior I expected. Will test again and post back.

Well I am now more red than Rudolph's nose. I don't understand how I missed that. Yes, it does work if you select "file system" you do get to user. Dang, I apologize for this whole thread.

No problem :D

We all have our moments  ;)

It should also be able to use ext4 formatted partitions.
