USB drive freeze
« on: September 08, 2012, 07:50:19 AM »
I just now installed the new Full Monty on a USB drive via netbootin. Everything is painfully slow, my CPU (2.8ghz) becomes strained, and in either Firefox or Chrome nothing is possible. Operation goes from slow to a dead freeze, requiring a hard, cold boot.
The machine is a Dell GX520, 2.8 gigahertz, with 1G RAM. The system was put by unetbootin on an 8G USB drive. Might I still chance a HD installation on this machine -- I have a 10G partition, ext4, prepared?

Is the 10GB for the "whole" system ( i.e.   /  and home  and  swap partitions) or just for the  /  partition?

Even if the 10GB was used just for /  you wouldn't have much (if any) "wiggle room"

The Full Monty 2012-09 install routine I think suggests 15GB.

Edit - I just had a chance to look at my Full Monty 2012-09 VBox install and shows the VDI  HD as being 11.8GB in size (no updates on it so it will get bigger)

Thanks. I'll install it to a 16G drive and see what happens.
