Enlightenment E17 ("possible" release in Nov/Dec 2012)

More information concerning the plans to finally release the Enlightenment E17 window manager will be revealed soon at LinuxCon Europe.

Michael Blumenkrantz revealed on Wednesday that he has received acceptance to give a LinuxCon EU presentation on "the road to and release of E17."

E17 has been under development going back to 2000 and is a complete rewrite of E16, which reached version 1.0 in 2009. E17 hasn't been quick to be released. In October of 2010, the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries went into beta, EFL 1.0 came in January of 2011, and last November is when E17 was made to be Wayland-compatible.

It was this July when we first heard plans were being made to actually release E17 and that there was a release manager. Now we hear from Michael Blumenkrantz that more information on releasing E17 will be discussed at LinuxCon Europe in early November from Prague.

Some sort of actual release date might already be known per Blumenkrantz's message. "In order to not ruin the impact of this presentation and the publicity building up to it, I am hereby requesting that anyone who has any idea (you'll know if this applies to you) as to when we may release E17 to please not reveal anything about the release date; this will be a fun feature of my presentation, and it would be a shame if I had to cut it because someone leaked the information early."

E17 could be released at the LinuxCon event itself, in December when it will have been twelve years since development began on E17, or a variety of other commemorative dates, but we'll have to wait and see. The new message can be found on enlightenment-devel.

Sounds possible the announcement, though hope a few more bugs are sorted,
couldn't get logout to work on my e17 build couple of days ago,
(a newly introduced bug, unless it was just me and my build)
I mentioned it and created a ticket, so hopefully soon get fixed.
Efm is much better than pclinux current e17 version,
unfortunately ecomorph seems to have fallen by the wayside,
though some may still be lucky and get it to work with the latest svn e17.
Looking forward to a new PclinuxOS enlightenment iso

Meanwhile using E17 alpha 6 :)
And yes ecomorph has been dropped in favor of e17's own compositing module.
