Ethernet Printer problem CLOSED
« on: September 03, 2012, 03:37:42 PM »
This must be a hardware problem, but I don't know where to look to fix it. Two printers connected via router to 3 computers. One printer is Laserjet 2200D, other is Epson WP4530.
From Windows 7 computer, both printers are accessible and print.  From laptop computer, Epson is also reachable. From this computer, only the Laserjet is accessible and prints. Trying to print to Epson brings up complaint box in lower right of screen, "Printer Applet: Printer 'EPSON' may not be connected."  From this same computer, double booting to XP, the EPSON is not accessible either.  this printer worked fine up until yesterday. I can also connect to the internet over this same router, from either OS.
I have done the usual reboot process:  Turn everything off--all computers, all Ethernet devices, the cable modem.  Let them sit for a few minutes, turn them back on, then turn on the
computers.  What now?
All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Added info: This is the same machine that I have had the Java problem with--After removing a lot of Java related programs, updating Java iaw the forum information, and then reinstalling
most of the files that I removed, YouTube has no audio.  See post entitled: Java Exploit.Agent-2 .  These may be related, but does not explain the problem from XP in this machine.  --doug

Check the IP Address that the computer that will not print is looking for.

I tried to ping what I think is the ip address of the printer, and the ping changed to another address (the last triple). And failed to connect.  However, I just went to the printer
setup (again) and it said "Ready to Print.  so I sent a test page, and it printed! I dunno. . . .
I'll mark this closed.

I am not sure how this happens or why.  But I fixed it by doing into the printer and setting the IP address and making it "static".  That way it was always the same and never something else.  You will need to get the manual for the printer and read how to do that.  Then go to the computer, when setting the printer up use that IP address.
