The download I got is an rpm.  It failed to install the script:

Quote
$ rpm -ivh *.rpm
error: can't create transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/__db.000 (No such file or directory)
$

you need to be root to install something .......  and you should give the full path and name of the RPM when doing so

Of course, doh.  The path isn't required if you are in the folder containing the .rpm.

True, but using *.rpm  can cause more than the desired RPM to be installed ......   path and name are specific and prevent unwanted results  ;)

I know.  I have a folder named 'Install' and only have in it .rpms I wish to install.  I now have the script running and all seems good enough.  I have an activity called  PCLinuxOS KDE which seems to essential.

Well, I have it under control here with a script in Autostart

I get that new activity button but I can live with that.

Should I go back to first post and mark solved or maybe fixed.

I would like to mention something which appears to be an additional benefit of the new script.

I use "Desktop Setting" rather than "Folder View" and have selected in Desktop Settings the option to use different widgets on each virtual desktop.  I use a different background on each virtual desktop (because I can).

What happened now and then, usually for no apparent reason, was that the background on each desktop became the same.  I found that the "different widgets" option was still selected.  It took a couple of log outs and back in and fiddling with the widgets option to get the different backgrounds back.

Since I began using the script, no such events have occurred.

Since the update to 4.9.2 I have not seen any new New Activities being created at all.

That seems to have fixed it.  The KDE 4.9.2 packages just appeared in the heanet.ie repo. Updated and a couple of reboots and like mellon no new activities show. Looks good.
