[WORKAROUND] How to change default forum font size?
« on: August 30, 2012, 10:26:28 AM »
Compared to the Firefox general font size, the forum font size appears too small at my settings.
Is there an option in the PROFILE section where in I can set a default size for the forum font?

Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

Set the minimum font size in FF Preferences  ?   I have mine set to 16 and I don't allow pages to set their own font size.

Oh! You are a lifesaver of the highest order :)
That minimum font size worked as a workaround.

So, there is no forum option for this?

You will almost certainly have problems setting a mandatory minimum font size in Firefox.  I have found the NoSquint extension to be an excellent tool.  You can create global settings as well as site settings.  You can also use it for colours but its palette is Firefox's extremely limited palette.

I got my font sizes just right on chromium-browser. Dunno about Firefox but if I need to make the fonts a bit bigger or smaller - Ctrl+Shift++ or Ctrl+-.

Why so?
Reason for asking is I have never met with any problems applying this.
Have I been lucky?

Perhaps you have.  On some sites a mandatory minimum font prevents you from seeing the whole page.  Perhaps your specified font sizes are smaller than mine.  Using a minimum of 14 and a default of 16 makes this page unusable.  With NoSquint I set the page zoom to 130% and it is usable.

My default is 16 Arial, and minimum set to 16 .......  and box unticked to allow sites to use their own size.

How do I know if I am not seeing the full page? What is missing?

Looks OK here .....

Second reply.  I forgot to reduce zoom for the second shot previously.

This is a thumbnail of what I see using zoom 130%:

This is a thumbnail using 100% zoom and fonts default 16 and minimum 14:

Increasing the minimum font to 16:

There maybe some useful stuff on the link below

I find the Page Zoom Buttons 1.1.5 very useful (it's experimental but I've been using it for a year or two with no problems whatsoever so I don't know why it's still experimental) ad

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,107182.msg915680.html#msg915680

The Toolbar Buttons 1.0 Add-On is one I've been using for a few years but only recently noticed one named Page Colours which toggles the web page to give it a white background and a second click toggles it back again.  I find this is particularly useful on those web pages that have black text on dark green or purple backgrounds

Is there not a scroll bar at the bottom of the window to allow you to scroll to the right side?
If I reduce the window size here, so that I see similar to what you posted, then that is what I get.

From the pics you posted it appears you have a screen that is not hi-res enough to show the full page - if the window was full screen.

In any case I have no such problem here ......  I see the full page unless I reduce the size of the FF window, at which stage I get a scroll bar along the bottom to allow me to view it.

For KDE related stuff you could try going to

Config Your Desktop > Common Appearance and Behavior > Application & Appearance > Fonts

and set the font type and size of choice plus increase the size of the Force font DPI setting and that will come though in Config Your Desktop / Dolphin etc.

Another thing I always set is the width of the scrollbars as I find them too narrow, especially in Dolphin.

I set this in the Style settings via

Config Your Desktop > Common Appearance and Behavior > Application & Appearance > Style

To the right of the Widget Style selection is Configure  > Scrollbars Tab and then add preferred width using the Scrollbar width option - see image below (it can be set between 10 and 30)

Nice find for a Firefox add-on.  THX.

Try Firefox Theme Font & Size changer if you'd
like the Firefox interface font adjusted, apart
from the theme font provided and in use.

I see a scroll bar if I reduce the window size from the maximised state.  I don't know what I can do about screen resolution which is 90x88 dots per inch.
