Webcam
« on: August 29, 2012, 03:59:43 AM »
I will keep the title simple for people doing searches  :)

I have just got this webcam today and it works with PCLinuxOS straight out of the box, It's USB plus built in mic and lights, It was only £9.95 (uk pounds).
It looks a good picture and sound :) .
My main use was with 'skype'.

Glad you found one that works for you  ;)   ... and at a nice price too!

All uvc compliant webcams will work with Linux.
I believe most popular manufacturers have moved, or are moving, to uvc compliance for their webcams.

Would you post the line referring to your webcam from the results of the following command in a terminal

lsusb

It should look something like this, which is for my camera

Code: [Select]
Bus 001 Device 014: ID 04f2:a147 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd
From a personal viewpoint I prefer to have the audio on the USB without the need for a separate MIC connection as appears to be the case with this camera.  Personal preference I guess  ;)

Thank you .....  when searching for devices the info in that line is important because the same devie can be marketed by many different companies and have different names.

1871:0142

Strangely I get no hits on line for that ID.
