KGET Problem in User
« on: August 28, 2012, 03:10:03 PM »
Since all is updated (kde4) kget will start to run in user and not fully open. I have to end the process in system monitor.

BUT kget works great in root.

I don't think this is a bug or it would not work in root.

Did you try reinstalling Kget in Synaptic?

Can't duplicate - it's working fine here, but to make the icon visible I have to open System Tray Settings > Entries and find the KGet entry and choose Always Visible

Interesting, yesterday I did not seem to have any problem opening KGet but today I get the symptombs, I see the flutter in the panel and then all goes quiet. trying to start again from konsole I am told it is already running, well a bit more:

Quote
[gert@localhost ~]$ kget
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
kget is already running!
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
[gert@localhost ~]$

SEARCH on Forum landed me here and following your lead I looked in tray Entries, and changed the entry to Always Visible

I can live with that I think, at least while experimenting as I have just installed KGet to see what I can make it do.   :D

Hey wedgetail

If you  happen to get the  already running message you could have a quick look in System Activity using the Ctrl+Esc key combination and have a browse to see if there are actually more than one process running.

The screenshot below shows my kget system activity and correctly shows only one process running

If there is more than one process you can stop it or  kill it by right clicking on the process and choose Send Signal > Kill

When kget is in the process of downloading a file it will naturally show more than one process - see below

Kget is set to run all the time here ...  I suspect that is the default setting.

It can be accessed by clicking on the icon in the tray (usually in the hidden list).

Attempting to run a second instance of Kget fails as described.

Thanks, you post most interesting for me, I did not realise that via system monitor (which I had forgotten the easy access to) would show what I would term "segmented download".  Well my assumption is that you mean that if I am downloading a file, the system monitor may show that this is possibly done in multiple parallel streams which then is nicely stitched together at the destination.

Am I correct that KGet does not offer the option to schedule the starting time, for example 3.00 in the morning?  I am just making sure I am not missing something.   8)
