Boot up screen wrong size - Solved
« on: August 27, 2012, 11:54:29 AM »
I had problems with the X server during an LXDE install due to an old graphics card. Now when I start up or shut down the "Booting System/Shutting down" message is in the middle of the screen but the LXDE picture only take up a quarter of the screen and is positioned in the top left hand corner. Is this an X server screen resolution issue, if so how do I change it.

On further investigation it appears to be a problem with the Plymouth screen. It is as if the screen resolution is too high. The progress bar appears a lot smaller than that on my other LXDE install. The Plymouth images I can find in GFXboot are all 800x600. How do I resize the Plymouth screen or do I need to resize the images.

During the original install I had the problem of the graphic card not being recognized. Running PCC I chose the Nouveau driver to enable the install process to complete. I decided to change the Graphic driver back to the Nvidia Geforce 4MX one and this seems to have solve the resolution problem.

Hi,

If you go into terminal and run gdmsetup, then click the local tab, and then select
other screens will change the login screen.

In /boot/grub/menu.lst you could erase "splash=silent" to eliminate that screen.
In LXDE there's a configuration menu option called EZSwitch.   Look in there for
other screen selections also.
