Last Version Before We Got Plasma?
« on: August 27, 2012, 12:23:45 AM »
Does anyone know the last version of PCLOS released just before we got the plasma (I think that's what it's called) upgrade?

I'm talking about the old KDE with Konq, not Dolphin, as file manager. And the features that we knew from several years ago. Like adding wallpaper by right-clicking and selecting "Configure Desktop" instead of "different widgets for each desktop".  8)

I think desktop version you are talking about is kde 3.5.10

Its probably difficult to tell the "last version" with a rolling release like pclinuxos.

You should instead ask for the last installation image with kde 3.5.10.

I don't think the "Quarterly Releases" had began before the "Big Reinstall From Scratch" happened.

If you are looking to get your hands on a copy of anything prior to that, good luck.

I think I may have my original minime CD from before that time. Possibly even a full KDE version but how can that help you?

What do you need it for and how could I get it to you?

Right clicking on the desktop is how I change wallpaper presently  ;)

I don't know off-hand, but I suppose it would be possible to find out, if it is important, by going through each old ISO and checking which version of KDE it has.

what george is asking is the last 2009 iso with the old kde, wasn't there a frozen repo with old isos to install it?

if i remember correctly was youcantoo who had one of those repos and maybe pclosusers still has that files

konqueror as filemanager can still be used and made to work like the old one and about wallpapers, i haven't used more than one desktop so no idea about what you mention those widgets  ???

pclos-2009.1 definitely had KDE 3.5.10

Not sure about any later ISOs ....  yet

There were a couple of ISOs after that with kde 3.5.10, but they were not officially released I believe ....  2009.2 for instance.

Just so that you know, I am still using konqueror for file browsing and it works as good as it every did. It's just a couple of tweaks to get it be the default, add it to my panel and I'm done. Works great.

As I understand it, it uses Dolphin for file management.
