I'm so sorry that this has to be the show-stopper for you, Lawrence. Do keep an eye on this thread. Who knows? A bucket of tips and tricks to workaround the glibc issue might really be a simple line of code added.
Anyway, thanks for trying the app out. I would advice you not to wipe out your PCLOS install just yet.
Dear Archie,
I have no intention of doing so at this time. I still like PCLOS for its security, its rolling-release concept, and its stability. I am using it on my older Acer Extensa computer which I plan to take with us when we travel and, for that purpose, it and PCLOS are fine.
When we travel, I generally do not use a computer for intensive work, such as using MakeMKV, HandBrake, etc. so this lack of capability is not a deal-breaker for that situation.
I have recently noticed that I am unable to play .avi files within VLC Media Player (and I am somewhat disappointed that VLC has not been updated to the completely stable
2.0.3 version) but it is easy (and I am thinking about doing this) to convert .avi files to .mkv files, which I prefer, and which do play perfectly in PCLOS.
You may have read that I, and some other people, are having a problem with the Gnome Disk Utility (palimpsest); some people have managed to fix it but I have been unable to do so.
These problems, along with the
main problem of not having a Linux kernel of 3.3.6 or later available for PCLOS, are the reasons I cannot install PCLOS onto our 'main' computers (ZaReason Strata 7330s with the new 3rd-generation 'Ivy Bridge' processors, which do not work properly with any Linux kernel
under 3.3.6).
I am still using PCLOS daily and, these problems notwithstanding, I still like it very much. I hope that you, along with other members of the community and the administrators, can update the operating system such that it can take in stride anything that is thrown at it.
And I still like this forum
above all others to which I belong. I have been able to learn what little I know about PCLOS completely from this forum.
I sincerely thank you (and all others concerned) with making and maintaining this excellent operating system.
