Install/Remove xfce [solved]
« on: May 09, 2013, 08:34:37 PM »
I am currently running Gnome 2.32.  I am thinking of installing xfce from the repository using synaptic just to see what it is like. Do I understand correctly that I do this by installing Task-xfce? Anything else? I think I would then have to log out and select xfce under Session as I log back in.
To remove it, do I just remove Task-xfce? Anything else?
If I decide to keep xfce and remove Gnome, what do I select for removal in synaptic? Task-gnome is not shown as installed (lots of other gnome files are, of course).
Any drawbacks to doing this?

Think remove the gnome packages is bad idea when installing Xfce 4.x (dependencies).
Maybe remove unwanted apps after installing is better.
To install Xfce install task-xfce and task-xfce-plugins, reboot and login into a xfce session.
To remove xfce packages it have to be done manually.
Start Synaptic and click on "sections button" (left under) and search for "Graphical desktop/Xfce".
Mark the packages to be removed and then apply, apply.

JohnW,
I'll follow this when I do it.
Thanks for the directions.
