Hi Folks,
I've been noticing over the past weeks since I updated to KDE 4.8 that the digital clock has a new section, a sort of list of holidays or dates associated with the USA. While such a panel might be great for people interested in following US holidays, the rest of us would probably like to see our own significant dates displayed, or else perhaps to disable the panel completely.

But I cannot find any way to change these to my local clock settings (Rwanda) nor can I disable or collapse the panel. Also, I cannot find where the clock is getting its information for these dates from.  (NOTE: there is a "Display Events" check-box in the "Digital Clock Setting" under "Calendar" but it does not do anything, either checked or unchecked -- I have tried dozens of combinations and localization settings, together with removing the clock and re-enabling it, logging out of KDE and back again to see if new settings stick, all to no avail -- the thing has become very annoying)

Anyone found a way to change/localize or disable this panel???

They come from the files in /usr/share/apps/libkholidays/plan2. There doesn't seem to be one for Rwanda, but it shouldn't be that hard to create if you use an existing one as a model. (I've created a Swedish one for Finland.)

Once you've created the holiday file you have to activate it here:

You should of course deactivate the American one.

Right click on the Clock/Calender>Digital Clock Settings>Calender then scroll down to United States
and set it to Not Used then at Display events - remove the check mark in the box and click Apply and OK

Your my man!
Thanks for the solution. Never saw those options in the Calendar section (didn't scroll all the way to the right---as my mother used to say: "Smart at school, dumb at home!")

Also thanks to Bald Brick -- I will look into putting together a list of Rwandan holidays and special dates.  It's great to know that KDE remains as completely configurable as it always has been. (yes, and though I am not bald yet, I have been using KDE since earliest Mandrake days, and PCLinuxOS since 0.81, which is longer than most)

Glad that you got it sorted.
