[Solved] VM desktops backgrounds
« on: August 23, 2012, 03:12:39 PM »
OK, I'm gonna try this again.

In KDE 3.5 it was VERY EASY to set separate backgrounds for each
virtual desktop, so that when you switched desktops you knew it.

I'm running 4.8.3 in Folder View layout with 2 virtual desktops, but
when I change the background for either desktop both get it.
It doesn't allow me to have separate desktops for both.

Oh please, the sages of KDE 4.8.3, this time answer my plea and
bestow the wisdom of the ages on a humble denizen of desktops.

Right mouse click on the desktop icon in the pager panel at the bottom of the screen.

Click on the selection "Pager settings"

When the window labeled "Pager Settings" appears, select "Virtual Desktops" on the left side.

On the right side select the box labeled "Different widgets for each desktop".

Click "Apply" at the bottom of the screen.

Now you will be able to set the backgrounds separately.

At least, that is how I think I did it.

Yes, finally!

After doing the above, each desktop presented a dark screen with no icons
and the layout settings was set to Desktop.

On each Virtual Desktop (VD) I then set the background:
right click on desktop and select Desktop Settngs > View

but the common icons I had on the desktops before were gone.

So on each VD I changed the layout setting back to Folder View
and the icons came back (though I had to rearrange them to prior positions).

right click on desktop and select Desktop Settngs > View > Layout
and select Folder View from selections

Now I have 2 VDs with different background with the same desktop icons

Mucho gracias!.
