Hello!

Thanks for the new release and the excellent work!
My question to the developers. A few weeks ago I downloaded pclinuxos-kde-minime-TR2012.06.iso from the official repository, when it was available.
Since then, there have been some important changes, because of which there was even a delay of this release.
During this time, I used pclinuxos-kde-minime-TR2012.06.iso, add all my programs and regularly updated it every day. Should I worry about the fact that my system does not meet some of the important criteria? Do I have to make some manual adjustments and tweaks or add the required packages for the system to match the most current release?  I guess this question is important not only for me.
Install a new image and start the job from the beginning is not acceptable to me.
My current system works well.
Thanks again.

Keep updating it on a regular basis, and you should be fine. Whatever changes were made, were mostly to default settings and such, with a few extras added to some applications, like a root profile for Konsole. If you upgrade to the latest version of konsole you'll have that, and you probably have already done that, if you've recently done a full upgrade. If you haven't done a recent full upgrade, do so now, and you'll have the same thing you'd have if your original installation was from the latest image."

So I am thinking, that is also true for KDE 2012.06 TR.  Is that right???
If it is great!!  But I must have missed something along the way.  I believe I have followed along and did all the things, like changed kde4 to kde in synaptic etc.  But I am still using the kernel 3.2.18-pclos2.bfs.  Where can I find kernel 4.8.3?

kernel 4.8.3?

it doesn't exist!

kernel is not yet on version 3.5, you read that wrong

kde is on 4.8.3

Hello Grandpa.

The most important is if you are running KDE (which I would certainly believe that you are), your KDE should be upgraded to 4.8.3 from 4.6.5. There will no longer be updates to KDE 4.6.5 and packages relying on KDE are built on the latest. You need to check whether you are really up-to-date.

The maintenance release iso are for those who might have difficulties updating. It is a bit tricky to update KDE from 4.6.5 to 4.8.3.

Thanks for your reply Archie.  When checking synaptic I see the installed version of kde4-config is "4.8.3-7 pclos 2012".  The installed version of kde4-config-flash is 10.3.181.14-0.1 pclos.  Is there anything else I am missing?

Open Synaptic, click Search. Type 4.6.5 on the Search: box and change Lookin: to Version. Click Search. Note if any of the results are installed.

Do again but change 4.6.5 to 4.8.3 on Search: and take note.

Determine which version of kdelibs, kde-runtime, kde-workspace, kde-baseapps-dolphin, konsole, kwrite ... you have installed. This will give you a clue what version you have installed.

Or an easier way to do this is open KMenu > More Applications > Terminals > Konsole. Type in:

rpm -qa | grep 4.6.5

and again,

rpm -qa | grep 4.8.3

Post your results.

Hi

Just had to try myself and this is what I got--->>>

[kamicota@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa | grep 4.8.3
libdb4.8-4.8.30-1pclos2011
[kamicota@localhost ~]$

Does this mean we are updated and I do not need to do a new installation of 2012.08 KDE???

"Does this mean we are updated and I do not need to do a new installation of 2012.08 KDE???"

the new iso available is there so new users can have a updated iso or old users needing to install a new machine and needs new packages on a new iso

when you have a rolling release distro, you don't need new isos each couple of months to remain updated

if nothing changes much in kde world or you don't change something really important in your hardware, your current install should keep working without reinstalls for years, mine has been since 2010

Thought I may have needed a reinstall as I get this from synaptic--->>>

http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/base/pkglist.kde4: 404 Not Found [IP: 193.1.193.64 80]

W: Release file did not contain checksum information for http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/base/pkglist.kde4

And yet the odd time it updates leaving me in a little bit of a quandry

this particular update has been rough for some users because some specific details in packages changed

the error you post shows that you are trying to access the kde4 section of the repo, the current updates needs to stop using it and start using the new one

what procedure did you used to update? if you updated by hand, you have to change repo sections from kde4 to kde

not sure if when you use kdeupgrade tool that change is necessary

Please... kde4 is not the same as xfce4. It is the kde4 you need to change to kde, without the 4, or Synaptic will continue to repeat the error message, and you will not be able to get further upgrades.
