Can't Connect To Internet via eth0 after suspending
« on: August 21, 2012, 03:46:01 PM »
Hi, I'm having a problem connecting to the internet after I've suspended. I have a ZyXEL, P-600 series router and the ethernet indicator lights-up but doesn't connect. I have the Enlightenment version of PCLinuxOS.
Code: [Select]
jane@daisy > ~ $ uname -r
2.6.38.8-pclos1.bfs

Code: [Select]
jane@daisy > ~ $ uname -a
Linux daisy 2.6.38.8-pclos1.bfs #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Jun 4 04:13:21 CDT 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

I've just noticed this anomaly since I rarely use suspend.

Code: [Select]
service network restartor
Code: [Select]
ifup eth0or both.

Thank you gseaman. I'll give those commands a try the next time the problem occurs.

you could try installing a newer kernel, 2.6.38.8-pclos3 or 3.2.18

if you have lots of ram, 4gbs, you can install pae kernel

if you have a atom or a amd cpu, a64 kernel can work too

install a couple more kernels, boot form them and try them to see if eth wakes up or not

Thanks for your advice T6. I'll keep those in mind the next time I use suspend. I followed gseaman's suggestions but no connection. I always have to reboot. This only happens after waking from 'suspend'.

Kind regards,

Glen

Well I've tried all previous suggestions but still no joy. All help will be appreciated. I have 2 distributions of PCLinuxOS installed, one is the Enlightenment version and the other is 2012 version. I have the same problem with both of them. They are both fully updated.

both pclinux you have, what kernels are you using on those?

what suggestions you tried, install a newer kernel?  did you restarted and then selected the new kernel letting it run for the first time?

On the 2012 version I changed to the following kernel:
Code: [Select]
[jane@localhost ~]$ uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain [u]2.6.38.8-pclos3.pae.bfs [/u]#1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Jul 8 18:23:21 CDT 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
I haven't changed the Enlightenment kernel. Thanks for your help.

there is another kernel to try

also could be helpful to tell us what hardware do you have there, as you know, there is uncooperative hardware that could require a special fix to suspend/hibernate
